GazCal Chlorine Gas Generator for site and laboratory test and calibration
Some gases are highly reactive and diffi cult to handle using traditional gas cylinders. Chlorine is one of these gases. With traditional gas cylinders, accuracy and shelf life of stored gas is poor. To overcome such problems, the GazCal Gas Generator was specifi cally developed by Euro-Gas for Chlorine (Cl2).
The GazCal is a rugged, portable, battery-operated unit suitable for test and calibration both in the laboratory and on-site. Utilised across many industries worldwide, it is particularly popular with water authorities and in water treatment.
Ideal for personnel like water treatment site engineers, the unit is housed in a small and robust carry case. The GazCal provides fast test and calibration source, needing little warm- up time. As it is easy to set required ppm level through dial-up digital display, the generator is also suitable for non-technical personnel. The GazCal generates Chlorine levels from 0.5ppm to 20ppm and can be used as surrogate gas for the cross-calibration of Chlorine Dioxide ClO2, Ozone O3 and Fluorine F3 equipment.
A particular advantage of the GazCal Chlorine Generator is that cell life is only consumed when the unit is switched on and used for calibration purposes, unlike cylinders of chlorine gas mixtures that quickly go out of date with 6 months of shelf life. The GazCal does not suffer from such short shelf life issues. When the unit is switched off, the gas cell is off. The unit can reliably be used for 5 to 10 years, sometimes without change of generator cell, and only requiring an annual calibration re-certifi cation (this is offered by Euro-Gas or can be resolved by on-site instrument departments).
The gas generator cell has lifetime of 500ppm hours which, as an example, equates to 100 hours of constant use at a 5ppm concentration level; enough for at least 400 individual calibrations. The cell life indicator shows the remaining life of the generating cell. Once the cell is depleted, a new generating cell can be installed. A conventional small gas cylinder, in comparison, will typically provide around 5 – 10 calibrations per cylinder (according to the experience of the engineer carrying out the calibration of the gas detector). Therefore the GazCal may initially be more expensive than a small cylinder but in the longer term, the generator will pay for itself over and over again.
Also with gas cylinders, you only achieve one specifi c concentration per cylinder purchased, like 5ppm Chlorine. The GazCal Generator is completely adjustable between 0.5ppm to 20.0ppm range and in 0.1ppm steps. Thus many different concentration levels can be produced from one device. Moreover, low concentrations of Chlorine are reliably produced with the GazCal, including 1ppm and 2ppm levels, whereas it is diffi cult to provide cylinder stability at low concentration levels.

Self-cleaning UV family of water analysers ready to go right out of the box with no reagents
With advanced ultra violet absorption sensing technology, Electro-Chemical Devices’ (ECD) new family of UV-6 Analysers helps treatment plant engineers and technicians ensure the safety of surface and ground water supplies, drinking water disinfection and defend the environment against untreated wastewater effl uent.
Relying on cutting edge UV absorption correlation technology, the ECD UV-6 Analysers are designed to monitor fi ve separate parameters over a wide range of values. They accurately measure via their spectroscopic sensor at a 254 nm wavelength with correlation algorithms the presence of ammonia, nitrate chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen (BOD) or total organic carbon (TOC).

The analyses of these pollutants are based on the measurement of UV absorption in a collected sample. Ammonia measurement is available in two ranges: either 0 to 10 ppm or 0 to 1000 ppm. Nitrate measurement is available in three ranges: 0 to 30 mg/L, 0 to 100 mg/L or 0 to 250 mg/L. Measurement of COD, BOD and TOC is available in two ranges: 0 to 200 mg/L or 0 to 20,000 mg/L
“ There is no small pleasure in pure water. ” — Ovid The world’s fi rst rapid, onsite testing kit for Legionella
Hydrosense is a pioneer in the Legionella testing industry. By applying environmental technology to an industrial setting, their scientists have developed a new on-site testing method for deadly Legionella pneumophila SG 1 bacteria in water and biofi lm.
The Hydrosense test is immediate, simple and accurate; providing insights into the state of your water system in only 25 minutes. There is no need for the transportation of samples and therefore, no risk of samples being damaged en route.
Incidences of Legionnaires’ disease are on the rise and conventional lab-based methods for Legionella testing remain dangerously time consuming and are often inaccurate. This combination puts lives at risk. By minimising the time taken to identify Legionella bacteria, Hydrosense reduces public health risk and helps to save lives. In parallel with periodic lab culture testing, or as a stand- alone method, this simple test helps your organisation to maintain vigilant control over water system quality. The Hydrosense kit securely stores test
results for audit with our innovative smartphone reader and portal.
Other methods of detection, such as lab culture, can have dangerously low recovery rates. Even the latest ISO standard document states recovery rates of only “>64%” for lab culture testing. That’s up to 34% inaccuracy! Hydrosense will detect viable but non-culturable forms of the bacteria which can infect human lung cells yet will never be detected by lab culture methods.
Warren Buffett once said, ‘It takes 20 years to build a reputation and fi ve minutes to ruin it.’ Real time water testing helps to keep organisations safe from outbreaks and the related reputational damage and revenue impacts.’
Hydrosense’s simple test enables earlier calls to action, while still on-site, and provides assurance that a high standard of service has been achieved, thus improving long-term customer value for FM companies.

The absorbance of the solution or gas is measured though a quartz fl ow cell at a specifi c wavelength using a long-life Xenon light source and photo- detectors. The absorbance is related to the sample concentration according to the Beer-Lambert Law, which relates the attenuation of light to the properties of the solution through which a projected light is traveling.
The UV-6 Analysers come pre-calibrated from the ECD factory, which makes them easy to install and start up. There’s no complicated assembly or calibration solutions, no special tooling needed or lengthy technician installation training. Simply remove the analyzer from the packaging, connect the sample, waste and cleaning lines, plug-in and power up the unit. Wall mounting hardware is provided standard, and an optional benchtop stand is also available.
This family of easy-to-use analysers greatly reduces technician maintenance time and consumables expenses. The design of the UV-6 features a built-in spray cleaning system that keeps the light source and sensor cell free from algae growth and sticky particles to ensure accuracy. Best of all there are no costly reagents required, which also must be disposed of properly to prevent environmental contamination.
Data logging is provided via RS232 communications. Four alarm relays are included, which are normally open, 5 Amp at at 250 VAC, along with a single 4-20 mA output with 12-bit resolution. Choose from multiple power supply options: 110-130 VAC or 220-240 VAC /30VA / 50-60Hz, or 12-15 VDC /4A.
