iv UK Focus New all-in-one groundwater level logger for basic water measurement

Responding to growing needs for continuous time series data with reasonably priced equipment, leading global hydrometric provider OTT HydroMet has released the new OTT ecoLog 1000. The modern groundwater and surface logger measures both water level and temperature as well as valuable metadata.

The OTT HydroMet team has leveraged decades of global expertise to innovate this next-generation ecoLog instrument, while also incorporating customer feedback. “We heard your frustrations about excessive, expensive trips to the measurement site”, said Peter Schaeffeler, OTT HydroMet’s Data Management Product Manager. “We’ve made the OTT ecoLog 1000 reliable with intelligent power management and a long-lasting battery, so it can remain in the fi eld without worry.” It also includes integrated mobile communication to eliminate data gaps and provide reliable and accurate data. This near-real-time data keeps you better informed before fi eld trips, so each future visit is faster and more effi cient.

The ecoLog 1000 is designed to be durable and long-lasting with corrosion resistance to saline water, due to the complete sensor probe being made of 904L stainless steel, and has a ceramic pressure measuring cell for increased robustness. The all-in-one system with sensor, logger, and cellular modem also helps reduce the number of components needed. The instrument is simple to operate with just a smartphone, with no additional tools for maintenance, and allows you to exchange the communication unit or sensor on site. Each of these features helps minimize the total cost of ownership.

“We’ve worked hard to greatly reduce the time and costs needed to set up and learn about the equipment, so customers can focus on their data,” explained Peter Schaeffeler.

You can access data through either HTTP / HTTPS or FTP – the ecoLog 1000 sends data to up to 4 servers, with automatic retries or fallback if transmissions fail. It allows for remote data access from anywhere via mobile IP communication. Network management capabilities add a new level of remote 2-way communication for easy access to an individual device or the whole measurement network.

New clamp-on ultrasonic fl ow meter for liquids

Bell Flow Systems have announced the introduction of the Dynasonics® TFX-5000 ultrasonic clamp-on fl ow and energy meters manufactured in the United States by Badger Meter.

Designed for non-invasive, ultrasonic transit time fl ow measurement of liquids, these fl ow meters are ideal for use in water and wastewater treatment, Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning (HVAC) and oil and gas applications.

TFX-5000 ultrasonic clamp-on fl ow and energy meters are a versatile solution for measuring volumetric fl ow and heating/cooling rates in clean liquids as well as those with small amounts of suspended solids or aeration, such as surface water or raw sewage. Typical applications include water mains, reclaimed water, lift stations and booster pump stations in water and wastewater or the energy transfer of chilled water (cooling) and glycol/hot water (heating) in HVAC systems as well as produced water in oil and gas applications.

As the newest generation of clamp-on ultrasonic fl ow and energy meters, the TFX-5000 meter is intended for users seeking an accurate, reliable and affordable transit time metering device, The TXF-5000 is available in a variety of confi gurations and can be selected with features suitable to meet particular application requirements.

By clamping onto the outside of pipes, ultrasonic devices like the TFX-5000 meter do not contact the internal liquid and have inherent advantages, such as reduced installation time and cost, no limits on pressure or fl uid compatibility. The meter is available in two versions, a fl ow meter for water delivery, raw sewage, cooling water, sea water, deionised water, water-glycol mixtures, alcohols, chemicals and many acidic or caustic fl uids and a heating/cooling energy fl ow meter used in conjunction with dual clamp-on Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) for temperature measurement in hydronic processes and HVAC systems.

The TFX-5000 meter is specifi cally developed for fl uid fl ow metering and heating/cooling energy measurement and can be employed for a host of data logging tasks. Users can select up to eight parameters to log, including fl ow rate and total, signal strength, and alarms with a time/date stamp to an 8 GB microSD™ (Secure Digital) card. It also features helpful diagnostics that take the guesswork out of isolating process or application problems. Users are alerted to out-of-specifi cation fl ow conditions and can access a history with the most recent alarm, error and event codes.

In addition, the meter can be integrated into remote telemetry packages for cloud based viewing, monitoring and download.

The TFX-5000 meter features a large, easy-to-read graphical display and provides Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet MS/TP, and BACnet/ IP connectivity. Confi guration and troubleshooting are through an optional keypad or via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable using the included SoloCUE® Flow Device Manager software. The meter utilizes a four-level passcode security system for applications requiring unit lockdown. Installation is simplifi ed with new Dynasonics Easy Rail Transducers, which provide a better acoustic interface and lessen the need to re-apply acoustic couplant due to installation errors.

Simple local operation is provided by an integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication to pair with your mobile device and it supports iOS, Android, and Windows 10 operating systems. The logger can be paired with simple apps and confi guration software, such as OTT HydroMet’s LinkComm program, and allows for usage across multiple platforms. You can also utilize a bundled solution with a data hosting service like Hydromet Cloud, a program from OTT HydroMet which gives you access to web-based data visualisation and alarm management.

The logger is ideal for government agencies, groundwater resource managers, scientists, technicians, and more for both short-term and long-term continuous monitoring. It is suited for in-well and in-pipe solutions, and any urban to remote locations with a mobile signal. It can be used in fresh, brackish, or saltwater. With it, you can monitor water level changes to interpret the impacts of climate change or drought or examine water availability and water use over time.

New air quality sensor proving its worth in London The new AQY

For More Info, email: email:

Micro Air Quality Monitor from Aeroqual, which is available from Campbell Associates, is designed for ambient air quality measurements and provides a

practical solution to monitoring projects in urban areas. Set up as a single device or as a network of monitors, the AQY reports key pollutants in real- time. The system focuses on PM2.5, PM10, NO2 and ozone, because these are the main pollutants closely associated with road traffi c emissions and known to be detrimental to the health of people living in urban areas.

The London Borough of Southwark have a permanent reference station which monitors ambient air quality at Elephant and Castle close to a busy intersection in an urban environment. To test the data collected by the AQY monitor, 3 units were positioned on the roof of the permanent station, and the systems were run in parallel for one week. In the graph the data from the permanent reference station is represented by the red line, and the green line is the data from the AQY monitors. The AQY monitors tracked the reference station measurements almost perfectly, clearly demonstrating that the AQY does deliver accurate and scientifi cally credible measurements.
