Automatic Dilution Capabilities for Trace Level Combustion Elemental Analysis

Preparation of calibration standards for total sulfur, nitrogen or chlorine analysis requires high quality solvents, clean environmental conditions and accurate handling skills.

To make the life of your laboratory operations easier and improved productivity, TSHR has developed an automatic dilution module as integrated part of their Liquid Autosampler models, HR 7000 series, and controlled by Athena software.

This intelligent automatic diluter will take from a standard stock solution certain

volumes and transfer these to assigned sample vials with addition of blank solvent and ensure a number of homogenous standards are prepared without any further manual handling. The dilutor tool will enable customers to prepare their own calibration lines with customised and selectable concentrations. After preparation of these standards the TSHR Combustion Elemental Analyser will analyse the standards and prepare calibration line prior to samples analysis. This feature of automatic dilution can be scheduled at any time and so will enhance your laboratory productivity.

The range of TSHR HR 7000 series, liquid autosamplers, is available in various configurations, whereby the HR 7100 model, which supports the automatic dilution feature, will also be available with heated and cooled tray configurations.

The analysis of Total Chlorine in hydraulic oil samples is required because the presence of chlorine compounds can cause the malfunction of valves which are used in various machines. Water combined with chlorinated compounds can form acids which will results into corrosion. The total chlorine analysis can detect changes in product quality, wear and chemical differences and potential contamination issues. The information resulted from these tests, will include reduced equipment downtime, reduced overall maintenance costs and prolonged shelf-life of instrumentation. In addition, manufacturing plants can increase intervals between oil changes, thus reducing waste oil, maintenance, and oil purchase costs. The need to measure low level chlorine content in hydraulic oil samples is very important and requires a sensitive, ease-of-use and reliable analyser system. TSHR has developed an application note which describes the application supported with real hydraulic samples data using the TSHR TX 6000 model Total Chlorine Analyser in accordance with ASTM D4929 method and use of the boat sample introduction technique. A copy of the application note and further product information of the TSHR range of Combustion Elemental Analysers can be obtained through sales@tshrinternational.com

large-capacity and fully- automated approach for obtaining the soluble fraction in homogeneous (pelletized) polypropylene

and copolymers. This instrument stands as a modern alternative to the traditional wet chemistry method based on xylene solubility.

CRYSTEX®

42 is based on the TREF separation concept in which the sample is loaded into a TREF column for measuring the soluble and crystalline fractions of the polymer. The dissolution process becomes part of the automated analysis workflow, so unattended analysis of a large set of samples can be performed in a two-hour period. CRYSTEX®

savings on manpower, solvent and time, but it increases health and safety levels in the laboratory.

Results are very precise due to automation and the integration of an infrared detector (IR4), which precisely measures the amount of sample analysed as well as the ethylene content. For a truly complete analysis, the instrument also measures intrinsic viscosity by means of a built-in dual capillary viscometer. All these results are obtained simultaneously for the whole sample, the soluble fraction and the crystalline fraction.

Portable Gas Chromatograph- Mass Spectrometer for Chemical Hazard

Identification FLIR Systems, announce the Griffin G510 Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS), its first person-portable chemical identifier. The FLIR Griffin G510 enables users to easily sample all phases of matter, including solid, liquid, and vapor, to rapidly identify chemical hazards in the field. The versatile Griffin G510 represents a new-generation of portable GC/MS capability, with multiple integrated sample inlets that simplify on-scene analysis and a technology core that delivers actionable, lab-caliber answers.

The FLIR Griffin G510 comes equipped with an integrated heated sample probe designed for downrange missions. When used in survey mode, it identifies vapor-phase chemicals within seconds. The split/split-less injector allows for environmental, forensic, and hazardous material sampling by enabling syringe injection of organic liquids, a first for person- portable GC/MS systems.

Featuring a nine-inch touchscreen, the FLIR Griffin G510 can be operated while wearing full personal protective equipment when in a hot zone. When a chemical threat is automatically identified using industry-standard NIST library, the FLIR Griffin G510 alerts the operator with audible, visual, and color-coded alarms. Designed to withstand harsh environments, the FLIR Griffin G510 is IP65-rated, dust-tight and spray-resistant. Long-lasting, onboard, rechargeable batteries ensure every mission receives support from beginning to end.

“The FLIR Griffin G510 is a groundbreaking chemical analysis tool that brings versatility and lab quality performance and identification to the field.” said Dennis Barket, Jr., Vice President and General Manager of FLIR Detection. “The ability to quickly identify unknown threats and confirm known hazards gives responders confidence to take immediate action, ensuring the public’s safety.”
