Automation Package Offers Safe, Environmentally Friendly and Profitable Plant Operations
Yokogawa Electric Corporation (The Netherlands) recently released their VigilantPlant Services(TM), the first-ever comprehensive package of automation service solutions that help manufacturers achieve safe, environmentally friendly, and profitable plant operations in line with the Yokogawa VigilantPlant(R) concept. From design through project execution, operations, and maintenance, VigilantPlant Services provide manufacturers the support they need to achieve Operational Excellence over the entire plant lifecycle.
Manufacturers today are looking to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of their operations while keeping quality high and costs low. At the same time, they face tough global competition.
To achieve these aims and ensure their survival, companies must identify improvements that can be made to their operations and draw up a master plan for their implementation. This has been made difficult, however, by a lack of broadly experienced lead engineers due to retirement and the fact that engineers today tend to be more specialised and have fewer opportunities to refine their knowledge by following up on the automation platforms that they have installed. And even when companies have identified the issues that need to be addressed, they may have lost through repeated personnel cutbacks the expertise required to select and implement the necessary platforms and practical methodologies. And finally, it may be more difficult for them to sustain the results that have been achieved through such improvements due to a lack of maintenance personnel or because the organisation takes a one-off approach in implementing these activities.
Simex’s (Poland) MultiCon CMC-99 are multi- channel, compact, meter/controllers. Based on the Linux operating system, they are ideal for applications where simultaneous measurement and control of multiple channels is required.
Users enjoy the MultiCon CMC-99’s simple, touchscreen navigation with its flexible display modes: numeric, bargraph and graph. This unit can control multiple outputs from a single input value, control of outputs from logical combination of several inputs, carry out direct connection of external sensors and actuators, as well as PID process control.
These controllers feature up to 48 analogue inputs, up to 8 current or 16 relay / SSR outputs, and an optocoupled digital input (1 x 24V DC), a 24 V DC sensor supply and a 3.5" TFT display of 320 x 240 pixels. The MultiCon can operate with several communication interfaces; RS-485/RS-232, USB Host, USB Device, and Ethernet 10 MB.

New Liquid Sampler With Air Driven Pump and Carry on Frame
On-Site Measurement of Fats, Oils and Greases in Wastewater in Under 10 Minutes
InfraCal TOG/TPH Analysers from Wilks Enterprise (USA) provide accurate, easy on-site analysis to assist regulators, as well as industry, to reduce the build up of fats, oils, and greases (FOG) in sewers. These analysers are ideal for use by publicly operated treatment centres as it is important to locate and monitor sites that are suspected of dumping high levels of FOG into the sewer line. In addition, numerous industries need to ensure they are not exceeding their oil/grease discharge permit limits. Waiting for remote laboratory results can take several days to a week. With a simplified FOG analysis procedure using a portable mid-IR InfraCal TOG/TPH Analyser, regulators or industrial pretreatment operators can now get on-site results in less than 10 minutes. The extraction and measurement procedure is simple enough for an operator with minimal training to do the analysis.
This type of measurement is not new as infrared measurement of oil and grease levels in produced water has been used in the petroleum industry on highly regulated off-shore and on-shore oil platforms for well over 30 years. The InfraCal TOG/TPH Analysers are used worldwide for this particular type of measurement.

worldwide standard for sampling liquids, liquefied gases and gases in the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries as well as in the biotechnology.
has added a NEW design to their available range of DPM liquid samplers. This DPM sampler, in system purge configuration complete with an air driven pump and carry on frame, allows the product to be pumped continuously through the sampler to ensure the retrieval of a representative and contamination free sample. The carry on frame complete with flexible hoses and quick connects creates a portable sampler ideal for sampling liquids on board ships.

Free Guide Details Innovative High-Pressure Tube Connector
Parker Hannifin (UK) has published a new 40-page guide to its innovative range of ferrule-less tube connectors for high- pressure fluid applications, which provides permanent connections for instrumentation tubing systems operating to 20,000 PSI /1,380 bar. Assembled by means of a push-fit operation taking seconds, Phastite connectors can reduce installation costs by factors of up to 90% or more compared with welded or cone-and-thread fittings. The guide describes the technology and sealing principle, the assembly process, and the advantages of this connection system compared with other approaches. It then provides detailed specifications and selection information for all the various shapes and sizes of fitting for tube diameters from 1/4 to 1 inch/6 to 25 mm, and information on the associated handheld or benchtop assembly tools

InfraCal TOG/TPH Analysers, with a simple and quick measurement procedure, enable operators of a pre-treatment system to easily assess their system’s efficiency. Plant operators can take samples before and after treatment to see how their system functions under heavy loads. System parameters can be changed if necessary and the results of the changes can be determined onsite without waiting a week or more for a laboratory result. Regulators can take samples from the source and immediately determine who is discharging high FOG concentration levels. Most importantly, effluent with high levels of FOG can be stopped before it stops the flow of the sewer line.
132 It is with these needs in mind that Yokogawa has developed its VigilantPlant Services concept.
Yokogawa provides a wide variety of automation platform solutions that help companies protect health, safety, and environment (HSE), optimise production, improve asset utilisation, and maximise plant uptime. Over the past 20 years Yokogawa has gained rich experience in providing operations improvement services to major companies in many different world markets, including Japan.
Yokogawa's reorganisation of its operational and consulting services business under the VigilantPlant Services name is based on the belief that manufacturers require a comprehensive package of services and solutions to support their continuous improvement activities throughout the plant lifecycle.
VigilantPlant Services bring Operational Excellence by improving the effectiveness of automation platforms. There are three basic types of VigilantPlant Services. Firstly the Opportunity Identification Services(TM) To identify new improvement possibilities and optimum solutions, Yokogawa provides Free Plant Analysis, Comparative Effectiveness Analysis, Management Seminar, Master Planning, and Improvement Leader Development programs. Secondly; Solution
Implementation Services(TM)- to effectively implement identified solutions, Yokogawa provides Asset Management, Safety Management, Production Management, and Plant Lifecycle Management programs. Finally; their Lifecycle Effectiveness Services™, following the implementation phase, Yokogawa continually maintains and re-evaluates these solutions for its customers to ensure that they remain effective throughout the plant lifecycle.
Yokogawa's VigilantPlant Services go beyond the scope of conventional consultation services to address the sustainability of improvement initiatives. The program includes the actual training of customer engineers in understanding the methodology behind these improvements. Yokogawa also pays careful attention to the quality and reliability of its automation platforms. To this end, Yokogawa has implemented a variety of quality management measures in the VigilantPlant Services package.
Conventional maintenance and repair services are typically reactive in nature; in contrast, VigilantPlant Services take a proactive approach to maintenance that reduces the total cost of ownership.
