Te First Configurable Displacer Transmitter on the Market
The modernised, digital E3 Modulevel® from Magnetrol
(Belgium) is an advanced, intrinsically safe two-wire instrument utilising simple buoyancy principle to detect and convert liquid level changes into a stable output signal. The new E3 Modulevel has modernised packaging, increased functionality, diagnostics, and the capability to configure rather than calibrate the transmitter. The E3 Modulevel supports FOUNDATION fieldbusTM, HART® FDT/PACTware™ communication protocols.
, AMS,
While the cast iron enclosure used on the previous electronic Modulevel design was large and unwieldy, the adapted dual-compartment Eclipse®
enclosure used on the E3 is modern,
light-weight and ergonomic. This enclosure contains the wiring, analog and digital boards. The LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) is housed separately adjacent to the enclosure and the two are joined by our flame path adaptor. The complete, explosion proof housing assembly is offered in both cast aluminum and stainless steel.
The E3 Modulevel is the only displacer transmitter on the market with a SFF of 92.3% making it suitable for SIL2 safety loops. The additional diagnostic tools allow the user to integrate this transmitter into highly demanding safety instrument loops (Exida endorsed).
The E3 withstands process temperatures and pressures up to +315 °C / 355 bar, handles liquids with an S.G. as low as 0.23 and up to 2.2, and liquid/liquid interfaces with a minimum density difference of 0.10 kg/dm³. By simply entering 2 process variables (temperature and S.G.) the E3 Modulevel is ready for service.
Unlike the traditional torque tube design, the E3 Modulevel uses a precision range spring. The spring reduces the friction of moving parts (only one linear motion) and provides natural damping. The result is a more reliable and stable output even when the liquid surface is turbulent. Because an LVDT offers twice the travel of a typical RVDT (Rotatable Variable Differential Transformer), the accuracy/linearity of a spring-operated displacer transmitter is superior to traditional torque tube designs.
The new E3 Modulevel displacer transmitter offers high reliability and expanded features which are sure to enhance it already immense popularity on offshore platforms, in petrochemical facilities and in power stations worldwide.

In-Line Flow Sensors are averaging Pitot tubes that provide accurate and convenient flow rate sensing for schedule 40 pipe. When purchased with a Dwyer® Capsuhelic®
differential pressure gage of appropriate range, the result is a flow indicating system delivered off the shelf at an economical price.
Pitot tubes have been used in flow measurement for years. Conventional Pitot tubes sense velocity pressure at only one point in the flowing stream. Therefore, a series of measurements must be taken across the stream to obtain a meaningful average flow rate. Dwyer’s®
for "traversing" the flowing stream because of its multiple sensing points and built-in averaging capability. Dwyer®
(USA) flow sensor eliminates the need Series DS-300 flow sensors are designed to be inserted in the pipeline through a compression fitting. They are furnished with instrument shut-off valves on both
pressure connections. Valves are fitted with 1/8" female NPT connections. Accessories include adapters with 1/4" SAE 45° flared ends compatible with hoses supplied with the Model A-471 Portable Capsuhelic®
Gage Kit. Standard valves are rated at 200 psig (13.7 bar)
and 200°F (93.3°C). Where valves are not required, they can be omitted at reduced cost. Series DS-300 flow sensors are available for pipe sizes from 1" to 10".

Improved Specification Means High Demand for Ultrasonic Level Gauges
Canongate Technology (UK) have recently upgraded the specification on their non-invasive LPG level gauges. The VesselCheck ST series is now available for all
sizes of LPG tanks and all tank thicknesses, whilst still maintaining their high accuracy. The specialists in non-invasive LPG tank gauges, based in Edinburgh, have over 25 years experience in level measurement instrumentation with thousands of tanks around the world using their well-known ultrasonic systems. "Our new software allows the gauges to be used on larger tank shapes and sizes, including spheres, therefore offering a much wider product range to our LPG customers without compromising accuracy. We can provide the most suitable solution for the customer's needs without worrying whether we will have a system to suit - all tank styles are covered. We have seen a great deal of demand for the new product range and have seen are recent increase in orders from some of the world’s leading LPG suppliers." commented Iain Crolla, Internal Sales & Marketing Manager at Canongate Technology Ltd.

These software improvements have caused a rise in demand across the range including Canongate’s low cost
VesselCheck ST1A system specifically designed for smaller tanks. Iain added: “Our VesselCheck ST1A is ideal for budget installations or smaller tanks and with the publicity of the upgraded software across the VesselCheck range, LPG suppliers are ordering up the ST1A’s for the smaller tanks at their depots both in the UK and abroad.”
In addition to this, the software means that LPG suppliers can now find a level measurement solution for their whole depot from a single supplier which can all be connected to their control system. “All of our tank level measurement systems can link together and either all be displayed on a single touch screen panel or linked to the depot’s main control system for accurate and up to date viewing.” Iain commented.

With the PBSN product, Baumer (Germany) is introducing a new general purpose pressure transmitter series. Thanks to their modularity, the devices offer a high level of flexibility to suit customers’ exact application needs. The sensor, which is based on Transbar technology with a thick film ceramic measuring cell, is also suitable for applications with aggressive media. The Baumer
FlexProgrammer enables the transmitter’s easy configuration.
Modularly constructed, the PBSN pressure transmitter series offers a flexible design to suit different customer needs, ensuring that their pressure measurement applications are solved with an accurate, reliable and cost-effective product. The Transbar technology-based measuring cells are suitable for gauge as well as for absolute pressure and cover a measuring range from 0…1 bar up to 0…600 bar. The standard accuracy is at 0.7%, or optionally 0.5%, of the full scale.
The thick film technology is based on a ceramic support material for the pressure measuring cell. This material is chemically neutral and compatible with most media, including very aggressive ones. These measuring cells are also characterised by excellent long-term stability and outstanding measuring performance in terms of linearity and hysteresis.
A 4…20mA output signal or voltage output signals are available and all common electrical connections and cable types are offered. PBSN transmitters are delivered programmed according to exact customer requirements, or they can easily be re-configured using the Baumer FlexProgrammer 9701 hand-held communicator tool. The PBSN can be delivered with different process connections made of stainless steel. Moreover, a wide range of gasket ring types (NBR, EPDM, FKM, FFKM, CR and more) are available.
The PBSN is constructed using a fully-welded stainless steel housing with a
standard IP65 rating, with IP67 available, depending on the type of electrical connection. It is abrasive and chemically resistant which makes it suitable for numerous general purpose industrial applications in the sectors of pneumatic, chemical and petrochemical, energy production, HVAC and automobile industry.
