New Process Gas Analyser with Web-based Interface and Advanced Processing Capabilities


Emerson Process Management recently announced the availability of the Rosemount Analytical X-Stream XE process gas analyser that combines web-browser-based accessibility with advanced processing capabilities. With expanded data communication, calibration, and event logging capabilities, the X-Stream XE is the ideal choice for complex process industry gas analysis applications that require more than basic gas analysis.


The X-Stream XE enhances the Rosemount Analytical family of X-Stream process gas analysers and takes process gas analysis to the next level of ease of use and communication capabilities. With a unique new web browser, it enables users to securely login to calibrate parameters and manage alarms from any Ethernet connection. The ability to remotely manage the analyser greatly simplifies diagnostics, speeds the troubleshooting process, and reduces the number of trips into the field by an estimated 50 per cent.


With powerful processing capabilities and innovative new built-in engineering tools, the X-Stream XE offers a programmable logic controller (PLC) that enables automation of the sample handling system and online programming through the web browser. In addition, an enhanced data logger offers improved data tracking, including a NAMUR status indicator, improved event logging, and a new calibration log file.


The X-Stream XE enables analysis of traditionally difficult to analyse gas, without compromising performance, reliability, or safety. As with the entire family of X-Stream process gas analysers, the X-Stream XE is available in a number of different casing styles, including flameproof, field housing, general purpose, and general purpose compact to meet the unique requirements of each plant environment.


“X-Stream XE continues Rosemount Analytical’s commitment to providing gas analysers that are operationally intuitive, and that don’t comprise performance or application flexibility,” said Ken Biele, president of the Rosemount Analytical division of Emerson Process Management.


Featuring an expanded graphical display and more powerful electronics, the X-Stream XE still uses many of the same internal components as other X-Stream process gas analyser models. This enables the installation of the multiple X-Stream product models to fit the unique needs of each process unit, without requiring an expanded spare parts inventory or operator retraining.

New Design for Electric Motor for Crude Sampler


A new design of electric motor powered crude oil sampler has been delivered to the Middle East for installation on jetty sampling systems. The three-step action of the unit — isolate, grab, retract — is characteristic of the original Maurer Instruments (UK) samplers that were developed in conjunction with BP Exploration in 1982.


The use of a bevel gearbox has allowed the motor to be co-axially


mounted in line with the main sampling cell section, enabling a compact system that avoids many problems that occur with a cantilevered motor design. A feature of the Maurer design permits the unit to be split into easily serviced modules that can be removed from the flanged cell without having to break and open the pipeline.


The motor controller has a facility for spot-samples to be initiated remotely or at the site in addition to the separately controlled time or flow proportional sampling modes. The complete system is ATEX approved for use in hazardous areas. The motor controller which is housed in an approved ATEX approved enclosure is engineered for a 200/240 VAC single-phase supply.


Designed for installation in a full ANSI Class 300 sampling system, the sampling rate is variable to a maximum of 15 grabs per minute. A choice of sample volume — ½, 1, or 2 millilitres is available at purchase time.


Once again the Maurer engineering team has combined ingenuity with experience to produce an instrument that like its predecessors, the pneumatic and hydraulic samplers, are designed to give decades of continuous reliable operation.


Maurer Instruments Ltd has also recently obtained PED approval for their range of Constant Pressure Sample Receivers and Piston Internal Mixing Receivers (PIMR’s)


Maurer Instruments’ philosophy has always been to design and manufacturer its products up to a high standard than downwards to a cheap price. As a consequence, Maurer Turbine Flow Meters and Crude Oil Samplers are still continuing to operate reliably more than four decades after going into service.

The powerful variable speed pump combined with variable pressure control and mircoprocessor technology ensures the best possible results.


For those not requiring such extensive features, the new Huber Microprocessor Control (MPC) is a modern, low cost immersion circulator, which has been purposely designed with basic functionalities, so you only pay for what you need. The MPC immersion circulators operate across the temperature range -30°C to +200°C and combine with either polycarbonate or stainless steel baths to provide precision temperature control for a range of laboratory procedures.
