6 High Throughput Chromatography Automation for Clinical Laboratories
Cambridge based Anatune will be exhibiting its new Clinical Sample Preparation Workstation at the Association for Clinical Biochemistry’s National Meeting, Focus 2011, to be held in Harrogate during May.
This instrument is targeted at the managers of busy clinical laboratories who are dissatisfied with the amount of staff time that is taken up in manually preparing samples prior to analysis by
LC-MS.This new clinical workstation offers improved data quality, increased sample capacity, faster turn-around times and lower overall costs by allowing complete automation of many common assays, linking sample preparation and analysis into a single seamless process.
Unlike other partial attempts at automation, the system can automate protein precipitation from blood serum and the separation of red cells from whole blood and coupled either with miniaturised solid phase extraction and the introduction of prepared samples into the LC-MS in a just-in-time basis, so that while one sample is being analysed, the next sample is being prepared, maximising throughput and ensuring that each sample in a batch is treated exactly the same way. The system offers complete turn-key solutions for several determinations that are of importance to many clinical laboratories such as: Vitamin D in Blood Serum; Immunosuppressants in Whole Blood; Urinary Free Cortisol; and Fatty Acid Profiling (by Automated Gas Chromatography).

New Column Formats for Faster and High Resolution Separations
Dionex is pleased to announce the release of three new MAbPac™ SCX-10 column formats for faster MAb analysis, pH gradients, and LC/MS use. The MAbPac SCX-10 is designed specifically for high- resolution analysis and characterisation of MAb variants. The new formats include: 4 × 150mm for fast MAb separations; 4 × 50mm column for pH gradients; and 2 × 150mm for upstream separations in LC/MS applications.
The MAbPac SCX-10 column’s unique nonporous pellicular resin provides exceptionally high resolving power, permitting the separation of MAb variants with high resolution. Hydrophobic interactions with the resin are essentially eliminated resulting in highly resolved peaks. The column, complementing the MAb Characterisation platforms, is designed to address the regulatory requirements for biopharmaceutical characterisation, providing unmatched column-to-column and lot-to-lot reproducibility.

ADVERTORIAL Whisper Nitrogen Generator
The Whisper Nitrogen Generator has been developed using the membrane technology to meet the specific requirements in terms of flow, purity and pressure in LC-MS applications. It can also be used for the evaporation of solvents in samples being analysed.
The model exists in different flow rates, with or without internal compressor. A specific Model called Whisper Hybrid has been specially designed for ABI LC-MS applications.
Circle no. 314 Hydrogen Generators
LNI Schmidlin SA has developed different type of Hydrogen Generators: The Classic line NM-H2-series is ATEX certified and has capabilities for cascading. The New Tech line H2-FID and H2-Carrier has a Touch pad display and an innovative water management system.
Both models employ’s the newest membrane technology available and includes the exclusive no maintenance auto drying technology. The pure gas (99.9999%) is ideal for operation with gas analysers, as fuel gas for flame tools, all kind of carrier Gas application, like GC and GC-MS (Mass Spectrometry), and as safe source of pure hydrogen in plasma chambers and other isolated environments.
Circle no. 315 LAB Air Stations
LAB Air Stations are available in 3 versions: AIR STATION: includes a quite built-in air compressor for to supply oil free and dry air.
ZERO AIR /ZERO AIR STATION: includes (for the STATION) a built-in compressor for to supply oil free and dry air. A catalytic oven removes the hydrocarbons down to 0.1 ppm
ULTRA ZERO AIR / ULTRA ZERO AIR STATION: includes (for the STATION) a built-in compressor for to supply oil free and dry air. A catalytic oven removes the hydrocarbons down to 0.1 ppm and in
addition a set of specific PSA filters to remove the CO2, CO, HC, NOX, SO2 and O3 contaminants and moisture down to 0.1 ppm.
Typical flow rates for the instruments are from 3L/min to 30 L/min. The uses of the LAB AIR STATIONS reduce the operating costs significantly.
Circle no. 316 H2-AIR FID Station
The LNI Schmidlin SA hydrogen generator is the economical answer to high-pressure gas cylinders in the laboratories.
Hydrogen and Air are generated from the same unit, ready to feed any kind of Flame Ionisation Detectors (FID). Zero Air is made from compressed Air from the laboratory and Hydrogen is made by electrolysis from the deionised water. The FID station is very small in food print and easy to operate.
