New Spectrum Spectrometer for High-Speed Infrared Analysis
PerkinElmer, Inc announced the launch of Spectrum Two™, a reliable infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer built upon decades of spectroscopy expertise. Part of a new platform of FT-IR spectrometers, Spectrum Two is designed specifically to perform rapid analytical measurements and is suited to a wide range of materials and markets.
Easy to use and compact, Spectrum Two is ideal for unknown substance identification, material qualification or concentration determination. Spectrum Two can be operated across applications as diverse as fuel and lubricant analysis, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, environmental and polymer analysis, and the teaching of these methods in academic laboratories.
The instrument's low-maintenance design breaks new ground in operational simplicity and is intended for use by ‘anyone, anywhere, anytime’ - bringing the benefits of accurate and reliable high-speed FT-IR analysis to non-expert users, even in non- laboratory environments.
Dedicated systems utilising Spectrum Touch™ next-generation user interface have also been developed to meet the needs of application- specific quality control analysis. Incorporating user-friendly touchscreen technology, Spectrum Touch allows results to be obtained faster than ever before by even the most inexperienced user, simplifying analysis operations considerably.
The instrument's innovative software and patented features ensure consistency and repeatability, and a unique humidity shield protects against environmental effects.
The Spectrum Two analysers also represent a major milestone of PerkinElmer's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, through reduction of the overall carbon footprint of manufacture, packaging and transportation. These are the first PerkinElmer instruments where reducing the impact on the environment was integral to the design process, by creating the smallest and lightest PerkinElmer infrared instruments ever made and selecting materials from recyclable sources.

Updated Spectrophotometers
Cecil Instruments have enhanced the design of their modern classics. Their double and single beam spectrophotometers now have USB ports as standard. These USB ports enable the spectrophotometers to be used directly under PC control. The use of the simple but comprehensive DataStream software, allows data to be viewed, manipulated, processed and saved. Kinetics time plots and spectra may then be automatically compared and saved in the DataStream library. Data may be copied and pasted into Word, Excel, PowerPoint or other software packages.
All the Cecil spectrophotometers provide for fast, reliable, easy, accurate and precise measurements. The wavelength ranges extend to 1,100nm. These versatile spectrophotometers incorporate a wide range of options, including high performance wavelength scanning, multiple wavelength analyses, multi-component analyses, kinetic analyses, calibration curves and spectral derivatives.
They may be operated in a choice of six languages. Instant ESEF software options perform user-specified and pre-programmed functions. Code protected, user-created methods are effortlessly added. The spectrophotometers may be fully accessorised, with provision for nano tray cells.

Spectrometer Delivers High Throughput and Low Stray Light
Ocean Optics has launched a family of aberration-corrected holographic concave diffraction grating spectrometers that delivers low stray light, high throughput and excellent thermal stability for applications ranging from absorbance measurements of optically dense solutions to fluorescence measurements in solutions and powders. Torus is a compact visible spectrometer (360-825nm) with greater throughput and less stray light (~0.015% at 400nm) than planar- grating and other miniature spectrometers. A flat field optical design and a reflective holographic concave grating disperses light; the concavity of the Torus' grating reflects and focuses the light and the grating groove pattern disperses the light. The toroidal nature of the grating further enhances the aberration correction and efficiency. Torus is also distinguished by excellent optical resolution (<1. 6nm FWHM with a 25 µm slit installed in the optical bench) and good thermal stability – wavelength drift is mitigated and peak shape stays the same over a wide temperature range (~0-50ºC).
For convenient experiment setups, the Torus Spectrometer interfaces to a computer via its USB port and couples to Ocean Optics accessories. The Torus model is available with a variety of slits, filters and other optical bench accessories for optimising configurations. Free-space optical coupling is accommodated with standard C-mount adapter. Torus operates via Ocean Optics’ SpectraSuite Spectroscopy Software, which runs in Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems, and is compatible with the company’s OmniDriver and SeaBreeze software development platforms. Software is available separately.
