Microplate Adhesive Sealing Films

Extra Colour with chromID bi-plates

bioMérieux has expanded its pioneering range of chromID chromogenic culture media to offer even greater practicality and performance. The new range of chromID bi-plates combines two media on the same plate, helping clinical laboratories to meet daily culturing and identification challenges more efficiently.

Chromogenic media offer enhanced bacterial identification over traditional media through colour differentiation. The intensity and specificity of the colours of chromID media optimise microbial enumeration, making it easy to rapidly identify bacterial colonies. bioMérieux has paired these innovative media with carefully selected, clinically relevant media to offer greater flexibility for laboratory workflows, reducing the number of plates requiring inoculation. The current range includes CPS®

/Columbia CNA 5% sheep blood, Mac Conkey/Columbia CNA

5% sheep blood, Strepto B/Columbia CNA 5% sheep blood, Candida/ SGC 2 (Sabouraud gentamicin chloramphenicol 2) and Salmonella/Hektoen, with additional plates due later in the year. chromID bi-plates offer dramatic savings by reducing storage requirements in fridges and incubators, cutting down on waste packaging and streamlining laboratory workflows. Simultaneous reading of two media means results can be obtained more quickly – leading to faster and more objective decision making – reducing the number of plates used and helping to ensure full traceability.

Available from Micronic Europe - the Pattern range of microplate adhesive sealing films has been designed to eliminate clogging and contamination of autosampler needles, maintain high sample integrity and provide the best barrier film for a wide variety of diagnostic and life science sample storage applications.

Manufactured using a patented process, that produces a patterned adhesive sealing film, the new range of products are able to provide an adhesive- free polymer seal over each well of the microplate. Using Pattern Adhesive Seals - sample integrity is ensured as the adhesive does not come in contact with the microplate well contents and the film seals securely just to the plates. Using coloured adhesives the application and alignment of Pattern sealing films to microplates is both simple and quick.

Pattern adhesive films are available in both 96-well and 384-well microplate formats, several film materials, and different adhesive compositions that provide high solvent (DMSO) and chemical resistance. These superior performance seal films are suitable for many different applications and provide a secure seal to microplates from -80°C to +120°C.

Intrinsically Safe Flame Sterilisation

A new white paper from INTEGRA describes the security features of modern safety Bunsen burners in relation to the inherent dangers of flame sterilisation using alcohol burners, gas cookers or a traditional Bunsen burner connected to a gas distribution system. Safety Bunsen Burners were developed to ensure high safety by eliminating the risk of gas leaking and explosion inherent in using alcohol burners, gas cookers and traditional Bunsen burners. With this new generation of Safety Bunsen Burner the gas ignition is both immediate and safe as no lighter or matches are needed. Unlike traditional burners, the gas supply flows only if a gas flame is detected by the flame monitor. Advanced temperature protection, user-defined maximum burning time and alarm display features serve to protect both the operator and operating environment. Operating from a wide range of gas cartridges - the battery powered Safety Bunsen Burner was developed to be used wherever you wish, eliminating the need for connection to an installed gas distribution system. With no interfering cables or tubes the ‘hands-free’ the DVGW certified FIREBOY Safety Bunsen Burner from INTEGRA has been proven in thousands of installations worldwide to be intrinsically safe and extremely easy-to-use.

Out-of-Box Solution for Liquid Waste Disposal

The new VACUSIP from INTEGRA is an out-of-box vacuum aspiration solution

The new Ultra-Fast DIALYZER System from Harvard Apparatus is compact, easy to use and designed to meet the wide range of applications found in research. The new unit has a double sided, 24mm diameter chamber thus increasing the diameter from 18mm to 24mm. The increased diameter results in a larger surface area for sample exposure and enhanced exchange rates.

The Ultra-Fast DIALYZER™ chambers can be used for a wide range of applications including Electro- Dialysis, Electro-Elution, Elution of Proteins and Nucleic Acids from Gels and Electro-Concentration.

The dialyzer comes with a chamber and two caps. Membranes are sold separately. Harvard Apparatus Ultra-Fast DIAYLZERS™ support a broad range of membranes with molecular weight cut offs of 100, 500, 1K, 2K, 5K, 10K, 25K, 50K, 100K and 300K Daltons. The new reusable sample chambers are made of PTFE for high sample recovery. The new design provides larger membrane surface areas for even faster dialysis rates. The units range from 50µl to 1,500µl volume.

for the wide array of liquid waste disposal tasks carried out at the laboratory bench. Occupying a small bench top footprint – the VACUSIP makes disposal of liquid waste both safe and convenient. The VACUSIP provides an optimised solution for applications including the aspiration of small volumes of liquid, such as supernatants after centrifugation steps, removal of washing solutions and multi-channel removal of sample from multi-well microplates. The VACUSIP features a reliable low noise pump and rechargeable battery enabling it to operate completely independently from an external vacuum source and power supply. This portable flexibility allows you to simply relocate your VACUSIP anytime to the point of need. To optimise battery run-time, the pump automatically switches on and off according to the vacuum needed for an aspiration task. The unique VACUSIP hand operator enables precise fine regulation of the liquid aspiration flow. A wide range of adapters are available for the hand operator enabling the VACUSIP to handle almost any liquid waste disposal task. A hydrophobic filter protects the unit from contamination and liquid entry. All components coming in contact with liquids can be autoclaved. Exchanging a full collection bottle is safe and easy, making VACUSIP the system of choice for the convenient removal and disposal of liquid waste. INTEGRA (www.integra-biosciences.com) is a leading provider of high-quality laboratory tools for liquid handling, media preparation, sterilisation and cell cultivation. The company committed to creating innovative solutions which fulfil the needs of our customers in research, diagnostics and quality control within the life science markets and medical industry. The INTEGRA group, comprising INTEGRA Biosciences AG, Zizers, Switzerland and the INTEGRA Biosciences US, Hudson, NH, maintains a worldwide network of over 90 independent highly trained distribution partners.
