Next Generation Hotplate and Stirrer Announced

Wiggens’ innovative technology has been used to produce the new generation round top hotplate-stirrer WH240 series. The hot plate uses unique infrared technology with a power of up to 600W and the ceramic glass has a high infrared transparency which results in a very high heating efficiency in a standard round top plate of 135mm diameter. Optimised PID parameters allows many different kinds of applications. A specially designed stainless steel protection ring, sealed outer shell of the top plate, and the robust ceramic glass can resist a thermal shock of 700ºC guaranteeing an enhanced longevity of the instrument. The control system has been updated to a higher level using a bright LCD display with adjustable backlight for user friendly monitoring and setup. Adjustable safety temperature setting using independent safety temperature circuit ensures a high safety level. A well-chosen design with reliable embedded temperature sensors inside the ceramic glass top plate makes the control more stable and accurate. A wide range of accessories suitable for the standard top size can provide uniform heating for multiple size vials in parallel reactions with a superior stirring effect as well. The products are now available for the international market with various voltage standards.

41986pr@reply-direct.com Extensive Offering for Cryogenic Sample Homogenisation

Reproducible grinding and homogenising of solid sample materials is an important step of sample preparation. However, not all materials can be successfully processed at room temperature. Some samples, for example, must not get too warm while others are very elastic and just deform when being submitted to size reduction.

The ideal solution for thoroughly homogenising these types of samples is cryogenic grinding which involves the use of dry ice or liquid nitrogen as grinding aid. Their cooling effect makes the sample brittle and lets it break more easily; moreover, negative effects of the frictional heat generated by the grinding process are eliminated so that, for example, volatile sample components, which are frequently the object of analysis, are preserved.

Retsch offers a wide range of laboratory mills suitable for cryogenic grinding of a large variety of materials. The CryoMill was developed specifically for this application and features an integrated cooling system. The continuous cooling of grinding jar and sample with liquid nitrogen ensures a highly effective grinding process. The operation is very safe for the user as he doesn’t come into contact with LN2 at any point.

Further Retsch mills which can be used for cryogenic grinding thanks to appropriate accessories include the Ultra Centrifugal Mill ZM 200, Mixer Mill MM 400, Cutting Mill SM 300, Knife Mill GM 300 and Mortar Grinder RM 200. Retsch has produced a number of application videos for cryogenic grinding which can be watched on the website www.retsch.com
