72 Expanded Viscometer Series for Lubricating Oils Announced
The SVMTM series of viscometers from Anton Paar has been expanded with the new SVM™ 4001 Stabinger Viscometer™. It has a double-cell system for viscosity measurements at two different temperatures simultaneously, providing the fastest Viscosity Index determination from the lowest sample volume. The innovative double-cell design of SVM™ 4001 allows for simultaneous measurements at 40°C and 100°C. As each of the measuring cells also contains an integrated density oscillator, density measurements according to ASTM D4052 at each temperature are simultaneously performed. The minimum sample volume needed for Viscosity Index determination and the density measurements is only 2.5 mL.
The Viscosity Index results according to D2270 as well as API calculations are automatically shown on the touchscreen. Moreover, SVM™ 4001 allows for simultaneous determination of viscosity and density at any two temperatures between 15°C and 100°C. This state-of-the-art SVM™ model also provides viscosity-temperature extrapolation according to ASTM D341 and freely selectable API grades which are shown on the 10x4” touchscreen. SVMTM 4001 provides an unbeatable combination of features that simplify the measurement process. Both density cells are equipped with the FillingCheck™ technology compliant with D4052 requirements, which allows real-time monitoring of the fi lling quality of the density cells. This saves valuable time as bubbles are already detected during the measurement. SVMTM 4001 is designed to provide Viscosity Index, kinematic viscosity and density of lubricating oils, base oils and additives, as well as in-service oils. In addition, the optional modular combination with Anton Paar refractometers allows for fast determination of the carbon-type composition of transformer oils with automatic calculations according to ASTM D2140 and D3238. In order to maximise productivity and meet the demands of high throughput, SVMTM 4001 can be used with a 71-position sample changer.

Backlit Monochrome Display Added to Mass Flow and Pressure Instruments
Alicat Scientifi c has added backlighting as a standard feature on monochrome LCD displays for its core range of mass fl ow meters, mass fl ow controllers and pressure controllers. The backlighting illuminates Alicat’s full-information, menu-driven, multi-parameter LCD display screens for easy reading, regardless of lighting conditions.
Though reliable and dependable, with low power consumption needs, monochrome LCD screen crystals lack strong contrast, meaning these screens are best read in well-lit situations. With the new illuminated display, users can toggle the backlight on and off at the press of the button for easier reading and programming in darker environments.
The new feature now comes standard on most Alicat instruments with monochrome LCD displays. Illuminated Thin-fi lm Transistor multi- colour display and display-free instrument options remain available to suit customer preference.

Analyser Provides Determination of C, H and S Concentrations in Organic Sample Materials
Eltra’s CHS-580 analyser for the determination of carbon, sulphur and hydrogen concentrations in organic sample materials such as fuels, oil, chemicals, soil, or cement offers unique fl exibility and robustness. The instrument is equipped with a ceramic furnace with a maximum temperature of 1,550°C. It permits direct elemental analysis of solid or liquid samples without elaborate sample preparation. The typical analysis time is only 1 to 3 minutes.
While
conventional combustion analysers only determine the elements carbon and sulphur, Eltra’s CHS-580 is also suitable for measuring the hydrogen content. This is a unique advantage of the analyser, particularly when analysing fuels or chemicals. The standard delivery scope of the CHS-580 includes golden infrared cells, so that aggressive reaction gases can be processed, for example for the analysis of acidulated soils. Flexibility is guaranteed by selecting the elements to be analysed in any possible combination. The measuring range can be adapted to individual requirements by variation of the infrared cells. The CHS-580 provides reliable analysis results for element concentrations from the ppm range to 100%. Additional benefi ts include: simultaneous analysis of carbon, sulphur and hydrogen possible; individual measuring ranges for C and S from the ppm range to 100%; high sample weight >250 mg; automated sample loading (option).

Wockhardt Introduces LabHQ LIMS for Quality Control
Global pharmaceutical and biotechnology company Wockhardt has chosen the latest version of Broughton Software’s LabHQ LIMS for its new quality control laboratories in Wrexham. This intuitive software solution is specifi cally designed to support the activities of busy quality control laboratories, and has been developed with input from Broughton Software’s clients and network of regulatory, quality and laboratory professionals.
Wockhardt selected LabHQ LIMS to meet a number of key business needs, including facilitating data integrity for regulatory compliance, increasing operational effi ciency and reducing costs. Together with its purpose-built quality control laboratories, this will support Wockhardt’s business well into the future, helping to improve the working environment, optimise testing effi ciency and meet regulatory expectations. The success of this installation with its intuitive user interface means that the system also has the potential to be deployed across Wockhardt’s global sites in India and Ireland.
Peter Sheppard, Quality Standards Manager at Wockhardt, explained: “When we were considering upgrading our LIMS, it was imperative that any new system would satisfy the growing regulatory demands of the pharmaceutical industry, as well as deliver further effi ciency improvements and cost savings to our business operation. Working with Broughton Software on a new version of LabHQ LIMS has enabled us to achieve this goal. The go live is perfectly timed as it coincides with the move into our new ‘state of the art’ QC and R&D laboratories in Wrexham.”
Broughton Software CEO Paul Moran added: “We are delighted that Wockhardt has joined our growing list of client partnerships. Working with one of the world’s largest generic pharmaceutical manufacturers gives us a priceless insight into the increasing demands of regulatory bodies such as the MHRA and FDA. As a result, the latest version of LabHQ LIMS provides pharmaceutical companies with the technology to ensure regulatory compliance and enhance the value of their global supply chains.”
