8 Ultra-Fast Preparative and Purification Liquid Chromatograph

Shimadzu has released the Prominence UFPLC Ultra-Fast Preparative and Purification Liquid Chromatograph, which enables fast recovery of highly purified target compounds from complex samples such as organic synthesis reaction mixtures and natural products. Conventional workflows utilising preparative liquid chromatography (Prep LC) yield fractions with significant water content which can take eight hours or more to evaporate and typically cannot be completely removed, resulting in a powder with poor weight purity. The Prominence UFPLC offers a single automated workflow that utilises on-line fraction trapping as an alternative to traditional fraction collection, allowing elution of collected compounds in highly volatile organic solvents that can easily be evaporated, resulting in ultrahigh weight purity compounds in about 90 minutes. The Prominence UFPLC greatly improves the efficiency of preparative fraction collection and purification workflows in pharmaceutical, food, chemical and other industries as well as research organisations.

The Prominence UFPLC seamlessly integrates traditional Prep LC with novel fraction trapping for up to five compounds of interest. The instrument is controlled by a dedicated walk-up software designed to empower non-expert users to easily set conditions for chromatographic separation and isolation of target compounds, trapping, purifying, eluting and collecting highly purified compounds in as little as 90 minutes. For applications involving the isolation of low concentration targets, replicate injection and collection to the same trapping column to increase the amount of compound trapped on column prior to elution is easily accomplished.

Shimadzu’s ‘Shim-pack C2P-H’ trapping column strongly retains target compounds, allowing unwanted organic solvents, water and additives to be flushed away. Additionally, rinsing the column with an aqueous ammonia solution after trapping allows compounds to be recovered as free bases which are generally easier to powderise, typically resulting in higher quality results when used in drug screening and pharmacokinetic studies.

The Prominence UFPLC is available in two configurations. The base configuration contains a single trapping column that can isolate, purify and elute a single target compound from the sample, whereas the advanced configuration is equipped with five trapping columns allowing isolation, purification and elution of up to five targets from a single sample.

New Vacuum Manifold now Available

Restek is pleased to announce the launch of the new Resprep VM-96 vacuum manifold. Designed for performance, versatility, ergonomics, and accuracy, this new product is suitable for everyday solid phase extraction (SPE), supported liquid extraction (SLE), protein precipitation (PPT), and filtration applications. The unit is compatible with 96-well plates from any manufacturer and has many features that make it superior to other models. The Resprep VM-96 has a heavy- duty, stainless steel and aluminium body so it stays in place better than lighter models and is precision manufactured so parts assemble quickly and easily. The built-in viewing window allows for easy observation of plate height and drip rate, and the durable O-ring and gaskets provide leak-free seals time after time. It also includes a precision height adaptor and five shims so users can customise plate height to their exact requirements.

Nitrogen Dedicated Gas Solution for ELSD & Compact MS Applications Introduced

Peak Scientific, a global leader in laboratory gas generator solutions, has announced the launch of its latest bench-top nitrogen gas generator system, called Solaris. Developed to offer a compact and convenient gas source for labs using ELSD (Evaporative Light Scattering Detector) instruments and Compact Mass Spectrometers, Solaris provides a consistent source of nitrogen gas for these applications, typically requiring lower flow rates and specific purity. With variable purity in relation to outlet flow and pressure, Solaris is a flexible solution for supplying nitrogen to one or two ELSD instruments, or a single Compact Mass Spec, capable of delivering up to 10L/min and at purity levels of up to 99.5% (at lower flow rates). Available with an optional dedicated air compressor module, Solaris shares a similar design to Peak’s modular Precision series (for GC applications), as the generator can be stacked on top of the compressor making the most of valuable workspace. Its stylish facia also functions as a status indicator as its colour indicative LED light alerts the user when the instrument reaches optimum purity and flow for analysis. Describing Peak’s new gas generation solution, Product Manager, Petra Gierga stated: “Solaris gives the user a consistent on-demand flow of nitrogen gas and brings efficiency to labs by removing the inconvenience of cylinder changeovers. It also removes the safety concerns of storing large volumes of gas on-site. Solaris has been designed using existing, proven technology making it Peak’s optimal solution for ELSD and Compact Mass Spectrometers applications.” As with all Peak Scientific products, Solaris, is engineered, assembled and performance tested at the company’s ISO 9001 accredited manufacturing centre in the UK, and is backed with Peak’s market-leading global on-site technical support. Solaris debuted at the Japan Analytical & Scientific Instruments Show (JASIS), Makuhari Messe, on the 7-9th September. Solaris is available to order directly from Peak Scientific or authorised distributors and shipping now.

Headspace Autosampler Range Expanded to Support High-Temperature Applications

HTA is proud to announce the extension of its headspace autosampler solutions: after HT2000H and HT2100H, the HT2000HT is being introduced. The HT2000HT features an upper sample heating temperature of 300°C: it enables the execution of high-temperature headspace applications in a syringe-based system, without the constraints and limitations induced by valve&loop systems. The HT2000HT incubation oven offers a 3-position heating and shaking chamber, allowing the simultaneous incubation of multiple samples.

The incubation temperature can be set between 40° and 300°C to accommodate the widest range of applications: the system can handle standard headspace applications (that require temperatures lower than 150°C), whilst still being well-suited to special high-temperature applications that include analysis of high-boiling compounds and polymers.

The HT2000HT features all the outstanding characteristics of HT2000H: compactness (near to zero requirement for bench space); universal compatibility (it can be interfaced with almost any gas chromatograph and it can serve both the front and rear injector in most supported GCs); ease to use by means of the full-colour touch screen interface; the lowest cost of ownership (no need for carrier gas); innovative technologies as vial leakage check and system integrity test. The key feature that distinguishes HT2000HT within HTA headspace solutions is the support of temperatures up to 300°C, making it the ideal solution for polymer analysis, as well as quality control of chemical product materials and for heat-induced degradation studies.
