VIRTUAL TECHNICAL CONFERENCE & 3D EXPO

• Presentation Selection: The

diversity of presentations offered learning opportunities for everyone.

Favorable feedback notwithstanding,

there were a number of areas identified for improvement, including:

• Question & Answer Sessions:

Platform design required delegates viewing prerecorded presentations to exit the presentation in order to enter a window for Q&A; Transitioning from prerecorded presentations to Q&A should be seamless.

• Posing Questions: Platform

design dictated that the moderator read inquiries posed during Q&A sessions to the presenter. Many attendees would have preferred the opportunity to have a direct dialogue with the presenter.

• Accessibility: The platform

did not allow delegates to log into the presentation in advance of the scheduled time slot, which in some cases caused delegates to miss the start of a presentation.

• Schedule: Delegates would have

preferred to have papers presented back to back without breaks between papers and to have had more papers delivered per day, making the conference shorter.

Virtual 3D Expo This year’s expo hosted a variety of exhibitors and sponsors. In addition to supplier exhibitors, a foundry Member and both the ICI and the Japan Foundry Society exhibited. Intending to draw participants into the exhibition halls to engage exhibitors, the ICI hosted an awards display which featured 3D renderings of the Innovator of the Year and Hall of Honor trophies, renderings of this year’s casting contest winners, door prizes (including a daily quiz), a selfie booth and a leader board measuring attendee participation. We received positive feedback as

noted below: • Business Opportunities: Sever-

al exhibitors reported that new business relationships were established, demon- strating that there is value in the virtual approach, and buyers realized that.
