MBE for logistics and transport boss
A Derbyshire business leader has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Allison Kemp (pictured), managing
director of Ripley-based logistics training and support services company AIM Commercial Services been recognised for her work in the transport and logistics sector. She was selected as chairwoman
of the Logistics UK National Road Council earlier this year, leading the debate on the future of the UK’s road transport sector. Allison said: “It is such a huge
honour to be recognised in this way, not just for me but the great team that I work with. “The sector continues to face significant challenges, including uncertainty around Brexit and ongoing driver shortages, but I remain passionate about helping people and playing my part to ensure we are getting things right.”
A Derbyshire-based professional insurance and retail broker has been acquired by The Jensten Group for an undisclosed sum in a deal advised on by East Midlands law firm Nelsons. The sale of HTC Associates, the professional
insurance consultancy set up in 2004, completed in July and has now become part of the Jensten family of companies. Nelsons’ corporate partner David Kaplan and
corporate associate Liz Mills acted for the shareholders of the company, Justin Conroy and David Tucker. Justin and David were two of the three partners who set up HTC Associates 16 years ago and they have continued to build the Ripley-based business ever since.
‘I’m excited to see HTC’s partnership with Jensten unfold over the coming months’
HTC will continue to function as a standalone
brand within Jensten’s retail division, with all members of the team remaining with the business – including Justin, who will continue as general manager. He said: “The first of our three founders retired in
2015 and David is now ready to look into early retirement too, so we naturally started looking for shareholder investors and Jensten quickly came to the fore. A key thing for us was to ensure that HTC
David Kaplan
stays the same as we’ve built up an incredibly talented team and loyal customer base over the years and this deal does just that. “Nelsons is a well-known name in the area and
we’d previously worked with the employment team a few years ago, but this was our first time working with David, who has done a fantastic job in keeping us informed with the deal from start to finish. “I’m excited to see HTC’s partnership with Jensten
unfold over the coming months and would like to thank Nelsons for all the support we’ve received over the past year.”
Nottingham to get gigabit investment
Nottingham is to benefit from a £117m investment in its digital future as part of CityFibre’s plans to replace the nation’s legacy networks with gigabit-capable full fibre connectivity. The state-of-the-art infrastructure is expected to boost
business productivity and innovation - delivering millions of pounds in economic benefits for the city - while giving residents access to the UK’s fastest broadband services. Detailed planning is already underway as CityFibre designs a
network capable of serving Nottingham’s current and future demands. Upon completion, the network will be in reach of nearly every home and business in the city and will provide a platform for a new generation of “smart city” applications and the roll-out of 5G mobile services. The company has appointed Dominika Walker as city manager to spearhead delivery of the Nottingham project, which is due to commence in January 2021. In this role, Dominika - who is also city manager for Derby -
will be responsible for ensuring the full-fibre network is implemented with minimal disruption. She will be the lead point of contact for all the city's stakeholders and a key advocate of the wide-ranging benefits that a full fibre network will bring to Nottingham’s residents and businesses. Dominika said: “I’m delighted to be part of an organisation
that is doing everything it can to transform towns and cities across the country. Our digital infrastructure plays a crucial role in growing and protecting local economies, even more so during these unprecedented times when connectivity has proven vital to residents, businesses and public services alike.”
