CHAMBER NEWS Business festival makes return Brexit Conference goes online

Leicester Business Festival will be held once again this year – with backing from the Chamber. Like many events, much of the week-long gala will

move online, but continues to play an important part in helping to re-energise and revive the city’s business community during the pandemic. More than 100 free sessions will be held from 2 to 13

November, with nearly 40 offering business support in a variety of ways. They include:

• Identifying which type of insurance a business needs • What to expect from an accountancy service • Getting access to finance and grants • Demystifying business contracts • How to turn ideas into reality • What to look for to avoid website hacks

Several events aim to support businesses through the pandemic, such as the impact on opportunities for growth, managing change in uncertain times, adapting employee engagement in a pandemic and implications on corporate governance. The Leicester &

Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) will also share a preview of the region’s economic recovery plan. De Montfort University is the headline partner of the

festival, with events run by independent companies and Leicestershire’s main business support groups, including East Midlands Chamber, Leicestershire’s Business Gateway Growth Hub and Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). Chamber chief executive Scott Knowles said: “The

Leicester Business Festival is always a special event that showcases the world-class innovation and creativity existing across Leicestershire, but this year it’s even more important to have such a positive platform that will highlight the services and products available for aiding business development.” Neil McGhee, chairman of the Business Gateway

Growth Hub Board, said: “We are delighted to be involved with Leicester Business Festival 2020. “Regardless of size, all businesses can benefit from

the wide range of events, many of which will focus on business recovery and growth during this difficult time. If you’re unsure what the Business Gateway Growth Hub is, we are a service providing free comprehensive business support, advice and access to funding for your business via a team of skilled business advisers.” The Leicester Business

Festival 2020 events will be mostly held virtually and are free. Tickets must be reserved in advance online and are available until the day before each event.

Businesses can find out how to prepare for a new trading relationship with the EU by attending a free online event hosted by the Chamber. This year’s Brexit

Conference, which takes place over the course of a morning on 26 November and is held in partnership with the Derbyshire Economic Partnership and Nottinghamshire County Council, will review the sweeping changes that 1 January 2021 will bring for exporters and importers. Sessions include an overview

of the future changes to trading conditions, HMRC update, routes to export markets, standards certification and the CE mark, effective supplier collaboration, HR implications and the ChamberCustoms offer.

The Brexit Conference will take place on 26 November from 9am to 11.40am. To book a place, visit bit.ly/34D1jgJ If you have any questions, email policy@eml-dnl.co.uk
