Construction starts on seven- storey building
Construction of an seven-storey office building within the £340m Chesterfield Waterside scheme is now underway. Tenants have already been
secured for some of the Grade A office accommodation, enabling the developers to bring forward construction of the circa 35,000 sq ft building, named No.1 Waterside Place, in the Basin Square neighbourhood of the development. Chesterfield Borough Council
secured a forward funding agreement with the developer Chesterfield Waterside Ltd after identifying the site – which has planning consent – as a key strategic investment opportunity for the town. It is hoped it will kickstart the
town’s economic recovery from Covid-19 and will spearhead major developments around the train station as part of the council’s HS2 Station Masterplan.
No.1 Waterside Place will form the centrepiece of Basin Square
Peter Swallow, managing
director of the office development’s project delivery partner Bolsterstone Group Plc, said: “It is an exciting time for Chesterfield Waterside, with Avant Homes also building new homes in the Waterside Quarter neighbourhood. “Despite the pandemic, 2020 will
be a formative year for the scheme, with a significant amount of

construction activity planned and more investment proposals in the pipeline, benefiting the local economy.” No.1 Waterside Place will feature
two passenger lifts, raised access flooring, air conditioning, LED lighting, showers and cycle parking facilities. The development represents the
first step in delivering the commercial element of Chesterfield Waterside’s £75m Basin Square neighbourhood, which will also include 320 built-to-rent apartments, a hotel and multi- storey car park.
Construction of the offices began
last month and is expected to be completed in August 2021. Chesterfield Borough Council
leader Tricia Gilby said: “These are uncertain times, but we must not stand still. We must continue to invest in this and other growth projects if we are to meet the council’s objectives of making Chesterfield a thriving borough and improve the quality of people’s lives.
“No.1 Waterside Place is just the
start of what we believe will be a very special journey for the people of this great town and borough.”
Albion House, left, and the co-joined Hanson House and Midland Scooter Centre, right New acquirements are key
Developers Sladen Estates and Peveril Securities, the team behind the landmark Unity Square scheme in Nottingham, have acquired a number of key buildings in the heart of the city’s Southside area. The sites, which include Albion House, in Greyfriar Gate, and Hanson
House and Midland Scooter Centre, in Collin Street, are set to play an important role in the ongoing redevelopment of this area. Once developed, the sites could accommodate 300,000 sq ft of prime
office space with an end value of £150m, bringing much-needed employment space into this part of the city centre. Nick Sladen, chief executive of Chamber member Sladen Estates, said:
“Sladen and Peveril have an intimate knowledge of the local market and national development and contracting expertise so we jointly have the scale, expertise and resources to make the most of the opportunity that our latest purchase presents.” Discussions are already underway with Nottingham City Council to
determine a suitable use for the site, with consideration also given to any future plans for the redevelopment of intu Broadmarsh following its transfer to council control. The local authority has said demolition is not likely to be completed until March 2022. Peveril Securities managing director Ralph Jones said the latest sites
were suitable for a mix of office and residential space. He added: “Despite the current challenges facing the country, we have been encouraged by Nottingham’s resilience and believe the site is ideally placed to continue the growth the city had been experiencing prior to Covid-19.”
