Name: Eman Al-Hillawi
Company: Entec Si
Job Title: Co-director and principle consultant
What does your company do? We’re a consultancy that champions purposeful business and IT change. Our passion for people and a collaborative approach deliver outstanding results for clients across many sectors, from aviation, to the NHS and local government.
How did it all start? It all began when I crossed paths with my business partner, Peter Marsden. We shared a vision to create a change consultancy with a difference and 20 years later we’re still going strong.
What’s your greatest achievement so far? Growing the Entec Si family to a talented team of 35 has been a major accomplishment. Winning the SME category of the Institute of Directors West Midlands’ ‘Director of the Year Award 2019’ was another huge highlight.
What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? Switching careers into consultancy at the age of 30 took a massive leap of faith but it definitely paid off. Today Entec Si has a network of loyal clients and we’re expanding into new sectors all the time.
What keeps you awake at night? Leading a team during a crisis is a big responsibility and isn’t something we’ve taken lightly. Putting our people at the heart of decision-making has helped to protect employees’ wellbeing while maintaining our team dynamic.
If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? I’d have taken to the skies earlier. Learning to fly has strengthened my ability to handle challenges
down on the ground and made me a better leader.
What has surprised you most in your job? How rewarding it is to see the team develop. Watching someone progress to the point where they’re ready to step into your shoes is an amazing feeling.
What advice would you give to someone starting out? Be certain that consultancy is right for you and then give it your all. Taking on new challenges builds confidence and sets you up for a successful career.
Which business do you most admire? The John Lewis Partnership – it’s a great example of how demonstrating a commitment to workers’ wellbeing wins their loyalty in return.
What exciting projects is your business working on? We’re helping a range of organisations to bounce back from Covid-related disruption, from local councils, to UK healthcare trusts and not-for- profit organisations.
What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? As a proud Birmingham business, we were keen to form more connections in the local community. Our membership has helped us to grow our client network and profile our expertise in a number of different ways, from entering awards to attending networking events.
