Airline raises breast cancer awareness
A major airline flying between Birmingham and the Middle East is raising awareness of breast cancer. The airline is Qatar, which operates regular
flights between the Midlands and Doha. The airline is raising awareness of the disease during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, by offering passengers a ‘Think Pink’ experience in the sky and in airport lounges. The ‘Think Pink’ experience takes the
form of limited edition amenity kits, as well as pink-themed in flight menus. Passengers travelling on long-haul and
ultra-long-haul flights in business class are being offered a luxury amenity bag created exclusively for Qatar Airways by Italian luggage maker Bric’s. Each kit contains skin care products, including lip balm, hydrating facial mist, and anti-ageing moisturiser, as well as pink socks and eyeshades. Qatar Airways Group chief executive
Akbar Al Baker, said: “Qatar Airways is a very strong supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are pleased to offer these unique luxury amenity kits to our passengers.”

HR expert launches scheme to get people back in work
After months of being the bearer of bad news by telling people they had lost their jobs, human resources expert Omar Rashid decided to put the redundancy boot on the other foot. Mr Rashid, franchise owner of The HR
Dept (NE&SW Birmingham), has now launched ‘Hire to Help’, a scheme to help those made redundant to find new jobs. The scheme came about when
Mr Rashid was working with the small to medium enterprises that use his outsourced HR services. When Covid-19 came along, he
was suddenly being told by businesses that they needed to cut costs, and he was the one who had to pass on the bad news to the workers who were subsequently axed. He said: “I found
myself helplessly delivering the news to individuals and frequently being asked if I was aware of any positions available.
“Motivated to help those who were looking for
work due to the pandemic, I began to collate information on available roles that some of my clients and other businesses were looking to fill, and so created a ‘Hire to Help’ bulletin. “Through sharing the bulletin far and
wide, I have helped in placing a number of applicants in roles and am therefore continuing to offer a free bulletin and job advertising service to support any business that is looking to fill vacancies. “Honestly, I felt tremendously
helpless when I was having to tell people that they would be out of a job and so I want to do anything I can to help, even if it means placing a couple people back in to work. “If you are recruiting
Omar Rashid: aiming to help those being made redundant
or going to be recruiting and would like an additional platform or support to recruit, then please reach out – I would love to help you in order to help others.”
“I, and the Chamber team, are grateful to all of our sponsors for their
commitment to the awards and the Asian business community.” Mr Wouhra has also confirmed that Acorns will be his chosen charity for
the awards. Acorns provides specialist, palliative care for life limited and life
threatened children and young people, as well as support for their families. The charity operates hospices in Birmingham, the Black Country and in
the Three Counties. Jason said: “I am delighted to announce Acorns as the charity of choice
that will be supported by the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce Awards. I hope that by extending support to this charity it will allow Acorns to continue to offer valuable assistance and extend its exemplary work to the community under extremely challenging circumstances.”
