Here is “What’s Happening at NICA” as we ALL actively make our way through this COVID -19 world. 1.Relationships with Health Departments, other agencies and politicians are the keys to reopening our fairs. NICA and

IAFE have collaborated on a three-part series regarding Health Department protocols, communication skills, and urgen- cy where NICA has provided most of the content. Read the article “Making Plans To Open Together” in the September Fair’s and Expo’s magazine; and listen to the IAFE webinar “Important Tips for Today’s Priority Conversations with Your Health Department” and the Marla By the Numbers podcast titled “a 5, 6, 7, 8 With the Health Department You Cannot Wait” for timely and helpful information on these crucial topics. 2. COVID-19 has been all about finding a variety of ways to communicate. Since the pandemic began, we have aver-

aged 22 unique social media posts per month, using Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. In the beginning of the pandemic we shared tips for staying healthy, for staying active and for improving mental health. We also shared financial advice, from both our own research, and from the small business association, that was relevant to our members. Next we identi- fied areas where our members could save money by reducing insurance costs and applying for federal and state grants. More recently, we have been developing campaigns on social media to keep our members engaged, as we continue

moving through week after week, where we cannot be together. Over the summer, we launched a Guess that Photo con- test, where the photos featured fair food, and our Facebook followers competed for $10 gift cards to guess the item cor- rectly. We are also featuring a weekly "Member Reflection," as our members share things they have learned from their time off, and the things that they appreciate about our industry. As the organization continues to operate, we also

regularly remind members to cast their votes for Direc- tors, to nominate Hall of Fame inductees, to follow information on upcoming conventions and to maintain their membership. Most recently, we launched a membership drive on

Facebook, where we have more followers than mem- bers, tapping an audience that has expressed interest in our work, but may not have filled out the application. 3.Save the Date for the 2021 NICA Business EXPO and Fare Foods Food Show. We are “Movin’ Forward” from February 15-17, 2021 at the Sheraton Tampa/ Brandon Hotel in Florida. You are invited and registra- tion is FREE. We are here to assist anyone with re-opening

whether it is with information, ideas, guidelines, dis- cussions, active listening, or to answer questions at www.nicainc.org; nica@nicainc.org or 813-438-8926. Let us help you rethink deposits, rents, layouts, labor, menus, supply chains, and/or routes in the context of Covid-19 and employee and guest safety. Know that our future is inside of us, not in front of us.

Together WE Can…. accomplish whatever we need to.
