Faircracker FALL 2020
Clay County Agricultural Fair Food, Fun & Flicks
Tasha Hyder General Manager
The Clay County Fair was not back in town September 25th-27th, BUT a taste of the fair was! After having to cancel the annual agri- cultural fair back in March due to COVID-19, the fair board decided to plan a different event to give the
community something to enjoy, which is how Food, Fun & Flicks was created. “We had two goals with this event: to help some fair food ven- dors and Deggeller Attractions recoup some revenue that was lost due to widespread event cancellations for the past 6 months and to give our community something to enjoy again. We were able to achieve both of those goals, so we’re happy with the results of this event,” said Tasha Hyder, General Manager of the Clay County Agricultural Fair. Safety measures were taken to ensure guests were adequately spaced out during the event and masks were required in cer- tain areas. An increase of hand sanitizing stations and a cleaning schedule was also included as part of the safety measures. Once guests arrived at the event they were treated to local bands performing, over 15 food vendors serving food, a chance to ride on the Ferris Wheel and two drive-in style movies Friday and Saturday night. Organizers say a few thou- sand people enjoyed the event and despite the extreme heat on Friday and Saturday and rain on Sunday, they were pleased with the outcome. “Hosting an event during a pan- demic, we didn’t want massive crowds so we did have a capacity number but the crowd that came was managea- ble and perfect for this type of event,” Hyder said. When asked if the fair association would be planning more of

these events, Hyder smiled and said “Maybe, I will be discussing some plans with the board. I know the community really enjoyed the movie nights and we received a lot of positive comments so we will see!”. The annual agricultural fair will be back April 1st, 2021 with everything you’re accustomed to experiencing at the fair, we’ve even added an addition- al day to the fair for more fun! The
2021 theme is “What a Ride! 35 Years!”.
