This Girl Can Festival Fun in Mid-Wiltshire
On the 3rd of March, over 80 year 7 girls from 8 schools across Mid Wiltshire travelled to Devizes School to attend the very first This Girl Can festival run by WASP.
The event, aimed at engaging less active girls and those most at risk from dropping out of sport and physical activity, gave girls the chance to try out 3 non-traditional activities most hadn’t tried before.
The event began with an exciting opening ceremony, where girls listened to a speech by Katie Edington Team GB Ice hockey star and first This Girl Can Festival Sporting Champion.
In her speech Katie got the girls motivated and explained how to overcome some of the challenges she has faced as a young sportswoman. The girls then took part in an energising warm up, before they were sent off to try the three main exciting activities.
Girls got their glow on in glow- dance, led by Caroline the Dance Lady.
Learnt some useful skills in self-defence with Master Deedigan from Deedigan Martial Arts.
And spent some time unwinding and relaxing through yoga with Lucia Moat. The event concluded with a closing ceremony, which celebrated the girl’s enthusiasm and positivity throughout the day.
