Mina Rashid selected as venue for IWMC
O
n 30 January, it was announced that Mina Rashid in Dubai, UAE, will be the venue
for the ICOMIA World Marinas Conference (IWMC) organised by the International Council of Marine Industry Associations from 13-15 October. With the main theme being ‘Marinas empowering tourism and economies’, IWMC 2020 will focus on regulatory frameworks and barriers, best investment practices, changing the public perception of a marina and new technologies, as well as climate change and environmental sustainability. The conference will connect
East to West and North to South, allowing the region’s young, yet vibrant, marina industry to share expertise, innovation and technology with developed and traditional yachting markets. Mohammed Al Mannaei, CEO of P&O Marinas and Chairman of Raseina, Dubai Maritime City Authority’s platform linking Dubai’s marinas, said: “With this announcement of the date and venue for the event, our countdown begins towards making ICOMIA World Marina Conference 2020 an unforgettable event for marina enthusiasts and a landmark for the UAE’s marina community. At P&O Marinas, we’re confident that
Mina Rashid will be the ideal venue to host the biggest names in the international marinas sector. “By bringing the world’s
recreational boat industry leaders and companies together in Dubai, we believe ICOMIA World Marina Conference 2020 will immensely benefit the UAE’s domestic marine sector. The event coincides with the start of Expo 2020 and this will prove to be an excellent attraction for leisure yacht enthusiasts from around the world.” Udo Kleinitz, Secretary-General
of ICOMIA, stated: “The venue selection of ICOMIA World Marinas Conference 2020 sends a powerful message towards the use of existing
resources. Located in a basin formerly used in Dubai’s commercial port, Mina Rashid Marina has been re-purposed to offer moorings and open access to recreational facilities and restaurants, thus addressing relevant aspects in public acceptance of boating and sustainability. I am very positive about the conference being held in a marina itself. Some events will make use of the marina infrastructure, including functions taking place on a former passenger liner, converted into a hotel and venue”. ICOMIA World Marinas Conference

New dates for two boat shows
The South Coast Boat Show, guided by Raymarine, has been rescheduled to the weekend of 3-5 July, this year. Following the escalation of the worldwide pandemic and UK Government advice to practice social distancing in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19, the organisers have taken a pragmatic approach. The show will return to Ocean
Village Marina in July featuring global power and sailing brands,

as well as an extensive land- based exhibition of ancillary services. Free tickets can be claimed and appointments arranged via the show’s website:
www.southcoastboatshow.com The West Country Boat Show,
due to take place at MDL’s Queen Anne’s Battery (QAB) in Plymouth, has been rescheduled for 19-20 June, 2021. The organisers are looking
forward to next year and creating an extraordinary show, which will not only celebrate all that the marine industry has to offer, but also the connections it fosters, whether in leisure boats, equipment suppliers, wonderful marinas and festival spirit. “As we all know, boating events this Spring are being cancelled or postponed,” regretted Chris Price, Manager of QAB, “and while this is absolutely the right approach,
to follow Government rules and help to protect the NHS, we’re also very aware of how disappointed our exhibitors will be and all the people who were looking forward to coming, especially in this Mayflower 400-year. However, we’re looking to the future and planning to create an even bigger and better show next year.” MDL Marinas
