Marine piling to replace timber
The Ecopile is a patent-pending, vinyl-fibreglass composite marine piling designed and produced for the marine contracting industry by Shoreline Plastics, which recognises the growing environmental resistance to pressure-treated timber in marinas, as well as the shortening lifespan of timber piles due to the activities of marine borers. The product is free from any

wood-boring organisms and 100% recyclable. It has a hexagram design, which is extruded as an internal webbing to enhance its structural properties as all the triangles work together to make the piling stronger and stiffer, whilst helping to reduce weight and cost. The hollow inside also enables marina operators to run wiring and pipes through the piling, giving their facility a neater, more
finished appearance. The bottom section of the piling that is driven into the bed of the dock has a spiral groove cut into it. This groove allows sand to settle into the piling, locking it into the ground and making it significantly harder to be pulled out during heavy storms. The grooves, in conjunction with the internal webs, create a huge surface area for skin friction, thus allowing individual piles to bear
more weight without the risk of settling any deeper. Shoreline Plastics
