Key date for your diary: Employability and Skills Summit 2020

Venue: Loughborough University, West Park Teaching Hub, Loughborough Thursday, 18 June 2020 8:30am - 1:30pm

Date: Time: Price:

£25+VAT members, £75+VAT non-members

OVERVIEW: Employers continue to report a shortfall in skilled labour and with prosperity resting on having access to a skilled, productive workforce this continues to be a perennial barrier to growth. The Chamber’s annual Employability and Skills

Summit will explore a range of solutions to support and improve your recruitment, retention and productivity challenges. We are pleased to announce that, for the second

year, our headline sponsor will be Chamber patron RDS Global, while the event is kindly hosted by Chamber strategic partner Loughborough University. Associate sponsor for the summit is Loughborough College. Delivering against the Chamber goal to “Support the

development of current and future workforce in the East Midlands”, the 2020 summit will show how the region can address the range of challenges businesses face and how we can ultimately create an environment where there is a bright future for our local economies, communities, young people and those furthest away from the job market.

ON THE DAY: The summit is aimed at business representatives – particularly those individuals responsible for the HR function within their organisation – business owners, representatives from the education sector, policy makers and business representation organisations. Through a number of keynote presentations, panel

discussions and workshops the summit will explore the implications of our QES findings – which again showed businesses are struggling to recruit – focusing on two key themes: ‘Bridging the Gap, Improving the link between education and employers' and ‘How do we deliver the workforce employers in the East Midlands demand’. Content agreed to date: • Welcome from Scott Knowles, Chief Executive, East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire)

• Welcome from Charlie Wheeldon, Head of Enterprise Network and Employer Engagement at Loughborough Enterprise Network

• Martin Rogers, Senior Researcher and Dominic Judge, Director of Governance Programmes – Education and Employers on understanding young people’s concerns for the future and career aspirations

There will also be a range of workshops available to choose from on the day, which will include topics such as:

• The changing face of recruitment

• “T Levels” – what are they and how can they support your business to attract new talent

• Using focused marketing to make your business more attractive to potential candidates in a competitive marketplace

• Employment law update – current employment law changes that affect your business

• Impact of Brexit on the workforce including EU Settled Status

• The Chamber Schools offer – this includes detail of the fully-funded membership for secondary schools

• Leadership and productivity – developing better business strategies to improve market competitiveness

EXHIBITOR SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: For details on opportunities associated with this popular, annual summit, please contact policy@emc- dnl.co.uk and all relevant details will be emailed out for your consideration.
