CHAMBER NEWS

Business community come together for night of celebration

Over 250 individuals from a multitude of backgrounds came together recently to celebrate and embrace the cultural diversity and unity of the East Midlands. Taking place at Leicester City

Football Club’s King Power Stadium, the Chamber’s inaugural Celebrating East Midlands Culture and Communities event was a true demonstration of all that is great about our unique region. As the largest business

representation organisation in the East Midlands, the Chamber is proud to support, engage and work with thousands of different businesses – and the communities they serve - across the East Midlands. Our region is home to a diverse

range of businesses large and small and from a wide variety of different sectors. It is also a region that is fortunate to have rich diversity and a flourishing range of demographics, cultures, cuisines, music, sports, arts, and so much more. This unique evening of

celebration - and the phenomenal atmosphere that went with it - delivered a blend of traditional and modern, some formalities but also a lot of casualness, fun and laughter; a mixed dress code of traditional cultural attire or formal black tie, and an evening that celebrates the spirit of respect, harmony, collaboration and unity. Guests, which included Michael

Kapur Esq OBE, Her Majesty’s Lord- Lieutenant of Leicestershire, were

treated to a specially-prepared fusion menu by Leicester City’s Head Chef Daniel Brazill – who by day creates meals for Premier League football stars. This was interspersed with a

diverse and fantastically-energetic and vibrant entertainment offering; including performances from Frederick Gent School Community Choir, a Bollywood-style dance from Shiamak Winter Funk, dancing from the Leicester Bhangra Team, Caribbean dance group Xtreme Mas and music from DJ Mahesh Mistry, a specialist in Western and Asian music. There were also well-received

speeches that fully optimised what the evening was all about from Dr Nik Kotecha OBE on the impact of CSR within the local community, Chan Kataria OBE on values and company ethos and Mark Esho on overcoming obstacles to reach business success. The three speakers were

representing their businesses, Morningside Pharmaceuticals, emh Group and Easy Internet respectively, all three of which sponsored the successful inaugural evening and without whom the event would not have been possible. Renowned local poet Jamie

Thrasivoulou also performed his poem Heart of the Midlands, written specifically for this event. Dawn Edwards, President at the Chamber, said: “This event saw a

wonderful and vibrant mix of different sections of society all come together in a celebration which will live long in the memory. As people and businesses we are unique but, collectively, we have so much to offer. “Last year the Chamber updated

its corporate vision from ‘Enhancing East Midlands businesses’ to ‘Enhancing East Midlands businesses and communities’ and this inaugural event was a great demonstration of how powerful it can be when we all come together – both as businesses, and communities. “I am sure this event will go on to

be a firm favourite in the region’s events calendar for years to come.”
