Awards for law school’s Legal Advice Centre

Nottingham Law School’s Legal Advice Centre has received two awards at the Modern Law Awards 2020. Winning both ABS of the Year

A brand new venture for Atish

Atish Parmar (pictured) is looking to reach new heights having recently sold his award-winning estate and letting agency. Having joined the agency

with his mother at the age of 21, he helped build the successful business before selling after 12 years at its peak. He also launched and sold a

sign-erecting company for estate agents, with both businesses still active and doing well within Leicester. After taking 18 months out

to spend with his young family, Atish realised that there was a gap in digital marketing that solely focuses on the property industry and, as a result, started a new entrepreneurial journey by launching a new venture; Metric Connect Digital Marketing. The company offers social

media marketing, online sales funnels and email marketing, undertaken through Facebook and LinkedIn paid advertising. In addition to paid

advertising, Metric Connect Digital Marketing also creates individual content on all social media platforms and produces blogs specifically for individual businesses. Atish said: “We have the

most creative formulas to implement within businesses to increase the business brand and more importantly the revenue. “We currently work with

estate agents, auctioneers, quantity surveyors and conveyancers. It’s an ideal client list, as we have been working alongside these industries for the past 14 years. Our clients enjoy a team that actually understands their market - it works well for both client and agency.”

and Paralegal of the Year – awarded to Caseworker, Callum Scott - the teaching law firm sees student volunteers working on real- life cases through the centre, providing a vital service to those who would not otherwise have access to justice.

‘The awards champion innovation and best practice in the modern legal services arena’

The Eclipse Proclaim Modern

Law Awards celebrate and identify talent and success in entrepreneurship, market development, business management and best practice in the modern legal services arena. The Legal Advice Centre was the

first of its kind when it was granted an ABS (Alternative Business Structure) licence to operate as a fully regulated law firm in 2015. Head of the Legal Advice Centre

Callum Scott

Laura Pinkney said: “I am delighted both the centre and Callum have been recognised in these prestigious national awards. The centre takes a proactive and novel approach to access to justice while training, and inspiring, the legal professionals of the future. “I am so proud of Callum and all

our brilliant staff and student volunteers for their dedication to the community and the value they bring to society. These awards are

recognition of their hard work and commitment.” Acting Dean of Nottingham

Law School, Jenny Chapman, added: “The awards champion innovation and best practice in the modern legal services arena and we are delighted that the work of the centre, and Callum's outstanding contribution, has been recognised through the two awards; this national recognition is so well deserved.”

RSM tops M&A advisory league

RSM’s corporate finance team was the most active financial adviser in the Midlands M&A advisory market in 2019. The firm advised on 38 M&A deals in the Midlands in

2019, moving from fourth to first place in the latest Experian league table; despite deal volumes in the region falling from 1,037 in 2018 to 958 in 2019, a decline of eight per cent year-on-year. Deal values in the region saw a sharper decline,

falling by almost 27% over the same period to £15.9bn, down from £21.7bn in the previous year. UK-wide, RSM advised on 166 deals in the calendar year 2019, moving the firm from third to second in the

national league table. James Carnegie (pictured), RSM's Regional Head of

Corporate Finance, said: “Unsurprisingly, some businesses were reluctant to pursue M&A opportunities in 2019, amid continued political wrangling over Brexit and rising global geopolitical tensions. “Against that backdrop, I'm delighted our corporate

finance business closed more deals and rose to top spot in the regional rankings. Our success in advising business owners on selling to private equity investors in particular, who remain interested in well-prepared middle market businesses with strong growth potential, has helped us grow.”
