New boat show at MDL marina

A

new West Country Boat Show will be held at MDL Marinas’ Queen Anne’s Battery (QAB) marina,

Plymouth, on the weekend of 20-21 June, 2020. This regional show in Britain’s Ocean

City, supported by Plymouth City Council, has been set up in response to the growing demand for more intimate and locally-focused shows, where people don’t need to travel so far to experience and compare different boating brands. On display will be a selection of

leading power and sail brands and with Princess Motor Yachts and Sunseeker Torquay Ltd already signed up to exhibit, the free-to-enter show

promises to be one not to miss, both on and off the water. The show is perfect for those

considering their first boat purchase, those wanting to try something new or for seasoned boaters in search of a great day out. There will be live demonstrations and plenty of opportunity for visitors to get out on the water. The action isn’t just on the water either, with an exciting selection of land-based exhibitors showcasing their products around the marina basin, as well as family-focused entertainment. Amidst the live music from local performers and bands, visitors can also take the opportunity to refresh and refuel with the tasty

Gold Coast venue for Marinas21

The Marina Industries Association (MIA) has announced that Marinas21, the biennial International Conference and Trade Exhibition, will be held on the Gold Coast of Australia. The venue is the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and the event will take place from Sunday, 23 May, to Tuesday, 25 May, with the Club Marine Marina of the Year Awards Dinner at the end of the conference. There will also be a Marina and Boatyard Technical Tour on Wednesday, 26 May. The dates for Marinas21 overlap with

the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2021 (SCIBS) that concludes on 23 May. Many delegates to Marinas19 appreciated the opportunity to visit SCIBS before attending the conference and the MIA Board believes this is an important ‘value add’, particularly for interstate and international delegates. Mike Harvey, Chairman of the MIA Marinas21 Committee, said the comparative ease of access to the Gold Coast for delegates, plus the added attraction of visiting SCIBS, were prime reasons for the decision.

“We have changed venues for 2021 in part to meet the growing demand for trade show exhibition space. The Marriott is also very central to a range of accommodation options.” The Professional Conference

Organiser for Marinas21 will once again be Gold Coast-based AST Management, which impressed delegates and exhibitors with their efficiency and good service. Colin Bransgrove, CEO of the MIA,

confirmed that further details of Marinas21 will be released over the coming months. He added, “MIA also welcomes enquiries from companies and organisations interested in sponsoring or exhibiting at Marinas21. Given the success of the previous event, we anticipate very strong demand for exhibition space by marina suppliers”.

treats available onsite. “We are delighted to be hosting this

new event at our marina,” said Chris Price, Marina Manager at QAB. “The show will enable the marine trade to be face-to-face with potential customers in a cost-effective and enjoyable way. From the exhibitors we already have signed up, it is set to be a fantastic event for boat buyers, watersports enthusiasts and families alike.” Queen Anne’s Battery is situated

in the centre of Plymouth. There is easy access to the motorway and rail network, ensuring visitors and exhibitors can arrive with ease. The marina’s location at the entrance to Plymouth Sound means there is open water just moments away, which is ideal for sea trials and ‘taster’ sessions.

Keynote speeches from leading experts

Now in its 23rd year, Seawork, which takes place in Southampton’s Mayflower Park from 9-11 June, 2020, will feature a series of short, informative addresses on the latest business imperatives in the commercial marine and civil engineering industries. Speakers will give their presentations from the floor of the exhibition in a dedicated theatre-style area. The first of the ‘Keynote’

speakers is Christopher Robert

Lloyd. He is set to address the hot issue of decommissioning and the ensuing commercial opportunities. Christopher’s experience is

impressive. He is an associate consultant and project manager at PetroMall and is currently consulting in the offshore energy field in which decommissioning is playing an increasingly large part. Formerly business development manager and strategic project manager with Reef Subsea, he has worked for the last 15 years on operations in the North Sea and Norwegian Continental Shelf. The daily ‘Keynote’ talks are just one of the innovative ways in which the organisers of Seawork engage its audience of over 7,700 contractors, consultants and other commercial marine professionals, including marina managers.
