UK marine sector performs well
New figures released by British Marine (the trade association for the leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry) on 11 February reveal how the marine sector has outperformed the national average since the previous year, with export growth hitting the £1.5 billion mark in 2018/19.
The report entitled ‘Key Performance Indicators for the Leisure, Superyacht & Small Commercial Marine Industry’ shows that new and used boat sales now account for 78% of the industry’s exports, while exports to Europe account for 74% of the total and now stand at a value of more than £1 billion.
concession completed The Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HARADF) has announced the concession of the first marina that will upgrade the tourist infrastructure of Chios, the fifth largest of the Greek Islands, for the benefit of its economy and the residents.

HRADF granted the right to use and exploit the marina of Chios for a period of 40 years to Marina Chios SA, the Special-Purpose Vehicle company set up by the investment group, Avlum Enterprises Co Ltd – Ioanis & Elias D. Tefas Nafpigoplastiki – Cleopatra Marina SA – Touristikos Limenas Prevezas SA.
Holiday park investment by MDL Marinas MDL Marinas is investing £400,000 into its Riverside Holiday Park. The park, which
became part of the MDL group in January, 2018, is located next door to MDL’s tranquil Mercury Yacht Harbour, just minutes from Hamble village on the South Coast of England. The investment includes the provision of nine new holiday homes complete with decking areas for guests to enjoy amazing views of the marina and River Hamble.
Coronavirus postpones boat show
In view of the continuing coronavirus situation and the likely effect it would have on attendance and participation in the 10th anniversary of the Singapore Yacht Show scheduled for 19-22 March, the event has been postponed until October, this year. The exact dates are still under discussion between the organiser, Singapore Yacht Events Pte Ltd, and the host venue, ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, but will be confirmed as soon as agreement has been reached with the marina’s management and all other major partners.
