BUSINESS REPORT CHARITY SNAPS UP AWARD

People with learning disabilities scored a golden goal for their charity when they scooped top prize in the Bucks and MK Sport Awards. MK SNAP’s project ‘Snap to It!’, designed to increase participation of people with learning disabilities in sport and physical activity, was named Project of the Year in the Bucks and MK Sport Awards 2019. Oliver Golding, the sports, health and well-being

coordinator, said: “The health and well-being of our learners is so important, and winning Sports Project of the Year demonstrates how much the learners have achieved.” The project offered a choice of eight physical

activities a week, from nature walks to football, horse- riding to yoga and welcomed over 100 participants to these sessions. The project was made possible thanks to thousands of votes from the people of Milton Keynes in the National Lottery People’s Projects 2018. ‘Snap to It!’ went on ITV Anglia and won £50,000.

Through the 3154 sessions delivered, learners

experienced improved physical, mental and emotional well-being.MK SNAP learner, Edward, also won the MK Sport Achiever of the Month 2019 through the programme, volunteering his time to help encourage other learners to engage in the activates. Thanks to the ability of developing partnerships with

other services, MK SNAP was able to increase the provision of sport for people with learning disabilities and improve their quality of life.

YMCA MK BENEFIT FROM MEMBERSHIP

Taking a customer-focused approach and providing a service resulting in a positive experience is exactly what YMCA MK is striving towards for the vulnerable young people they support. Since being selected as the

charity partner of the MK Chamber of Commerce, they have had the opportunity to work with like- minded organisations in and around the city. YMCA MK have been lucky

enough to experience first-hand the generosity of MK Chamber members, and last year was introduced to Ellievision AV through membership. In December, Ellievision offered its expertise and helped to celebrate the charity’s supporters with a Christmas Concert, with Ellievision providing AV and lighting for a festive occasion. Heather and Tim from Ellievision

have been an extension of the YMCA family, going above and beyond with their time and effort. Collaborations such as this are

really important in allowing YMCA MK to raise awareness and be proactive with a solution to the youth homelessness issue in Milton Keynes.
