Enrico Benvenuti on sax, and “Something Left Behind” brings to mind one of my favorite bands, Blackberry Smoke. “Cajun Lady” is reminiscent of the great bands of the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s, and once again, the harmonica adds an extra layer of excellence. “Busted” is a stripped down smooth blues tune, and “I’d Rather Walk with the Devil” rocks like a Gov’t Mule tune. Another good one. “Mouth of the Lion” wraps up the set with even more bombastic rock. I swear, these guys re- mind me of the sounds I so loved during the early to mid ‘70’s, Allmans, Deep Purple, Edgar Winter Group – all the greats. Bravo guys, you have cre- ated one fine album that begs for repeat listen- ings. Turn it up to ELEVEN!

The Georgia Thunder- bolts Southern Rock from Rome (Georgia Thunderbolts) Wowzer! These guys

may very well be my fa- vorite new band! With a

rocking soiund that falls somewhere between Blackberry Smoke and Lynyrd Skynyrd, this five man ensemble out of Rome, Georgia rock out like a redneck Black Sabbath! The sound is immedi- ately infectious, and all it takes is one spin of this platter and you are hooked. They grab you by the short hairs and pull hard! “Better Run from the Beast” is heavy like I like it, with smoking slide guitar and a great vocal from T.J. Lyle. The guy has a killer voice. The rest of the band are Riley Couzzourt on guitar, Logan Tolbert on guitar, Zach Everett on bass and piano and Bristol, Perry on drums. “Life I’m Living” reminds me of the afore-

mentioned Blackberry Smoke, and “Be Good to Yourself” is a bit reminiscent of the best Black Crowes song. “Lend a Hand” is a really great rocker that I truly believe Ronnie Van Zant would have loved. Actually, I could say the same thing about the swampy “It Ain’t Easy.” Me like. “Can I Get a Witness” is another standout track, rocking heavy behind a souring vocal. Think Gov’t Mule meets Deep Purple in their Richie Blackmore/Ian Gillian prime. “Dancing with the

Devil” smokes, and “Set Me Free” is a great set closer, putting the cherry on top of this sweet treat. Did I say the Thunderbolts might be my fa- vorite new band? I take that back. The Georgia Thunderbolts are most assuredly my favorite new band! Yep. Get you some.

Hank Williams Pictures from Life’s Other Side- The Man and His Music in Rare Photos and Recordings Box Set (BMG) This huge six-CD set gathers

144 remastered live performances from radio shows Hank Williams hosted over 70 years ago. The 15-minute shows were aired on WSM Radio. Sponsored by Mother’s Best Flour Company, the show was broadcast each week day. Great live takes on “Lovesick Blues,” “I

Saw the Light,” and “I’m So Lonesome I could Cry,” are of course included, but the set also con- tains many songs performed by Hank that5 are unavailable anywhere else, including a lovely “Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain,” a song that would later become synonymous with Willie Nelson. Just a few of the many highlights here include heartfelt versions of “Lord Build Me a Cabin,” “Cool Water,” “Faded Love and Winter Roses,” “Where the Soul of Man Never Dies,” “Cold Cold Heart,” “Farther Along,” “I Can’t Help it if I’m Still in Love with You,” “On Top of Old Smoky,” “At the Cross,” “Dust on the Bible,” “Precious Lord Take My Hand,” and “I Heard That Lone- some Whistle.” Besides the great music, these radio shows

help to provide a clearer insight into the man, Hank Williams, his charisma and good nature and humor. We are magically transported back to a much simpler time, when country music was re- ally country music, and America was still “one na- tion under God.” Truly a happy time. This box set the perfect Holiday gift (or

anytime gift), and includes a 272-page hard back book, containing extremely rare photos and track information, helping to provide a clearer picture
