COUCH POTATO Cynthia Erivo as Holly Gibney in The Outsider.
I guess by now you all know, I am a huge Stephen Kingfan. Most of the time, the movies that are based on his books tend to be kind of lame, but that really started getting better with the recent remake of It, followed by the sequel. Of course, I rather en- joyed the TV mini-series from years ago with Tim Curry, but then again, Tim Curry could make even a weak film great. He’s a top notch actor in my book. I really enjoyed thye Hulu series Castle Rock during season one with Sissy Spacek, but season two absolutely blew me away. I had to pinch myself to be sure I wasn’t dreaming. Misery may be my all time favorite King novel, and the movie ver- sion with Kathy Bates and James Caan has always been my favorite film adaptation of s King book. So in season two of Castle Rock, we get to see the early years of Annie Wilkes, and how she became so cocka doodee crazy. Of course, the time line is confusing, since it takes place in present day and she is young, and in the movie, she was older and it was present day then, in the early 1990’s. But why be nit pickey? The story of Annie and her “daugh- ter” is killer, literally.Just a great season. Binge it now! . . . Speaking of King, I just binged the first three seasons of Mr. Mercedes, also good TV. Stephen King really knows crazy. Yep.. . . And now, King’s The Outsider has started the TV adapta- tion of the great novel on HBO. It follows the book closely, at least as of episode three. . .The Boysis a
great series on Amazon. Super heroes for adults only! A dark comedy that has characters very simi- lar to Wonder Woman, Captain America, the Flash, Aqua Man, etc., but flawed like real human beings. Starlight is a real cutie. But remember what we learned from Spiderman, “with great power comes great responsibility.” True. . . The Irishmanis a great gangster movie on Netflix. Much like the Godfather meets the Sopranos, it stars the kings of mob movied, Robert Deniro, Joe Peschi, Al Pacino. A top shelf film. As good as any in the cinema. . Netflix branches off of their great The Toys that Made Us to deliver The Movies that Made Us, beginning with an excellent look at how Dirty Dancingwas almost never made. Just think, Baby was almost never put in a corner! . . . Happy to see that Fargo is returning for a fourth season on FX April 19 at 10 pm. Word is they have another super all-star cast headed up by comedian Chris Rock and takes place in Kansas City, Mo back in the 1950s. Rock plays the head of an African American crime family. . . Kinda bummed that is the final sea- son of Supernatural. It’s hard to imagine a world without Sam and Dean. The finale promises to be big. . .We are still counting down the days until Walking Dead returns, It remains one of our favorite TV adictions. . . What Would Jack Do?is the downright strangest fifteen minutes of TV yiou are apt to see, ever. Written and directed by David Lynch,Lynch also stars in the short, black anbd white film an a police interigator, questioning a monkey - yes, a monkey who talks - about his in- volvement in a crime. The S/FX used to make the monkey’s mouth move like a human are great - and very disturbing. Check it out on Netflix, where you can also binge the excellent third season of Jessica Jones, the Marvel Comiucs anti- hero. . . Very ex- cited seeing Patrick Stewart return as Picard inthe newest Star Trek series. Two episodes in ands looking great! •
