NEWS 2020
The surviving members of the final version of the Allman Brothers Band will be cele- brating their 50th anniversary March 10 at Madison Square Garden. Jaimoe, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Oteil Burbridge and Marc Quinones will reunite. Drummer Duane Trucks, Derek’s brother and Widespread Panic member , will fill in for his late uncle Butch. Reese Wynans, best known for his work with Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Double Trou- ble, will fill the organ chair in a neat bit of un- broken circling; Reese played in The Second coming with Dickey Betts and Berry Oakley, and played in the original jams organized by Duane Allman as the ABB was forming. He moved on when Gregg Allman returned from Los Angeles. Pianist Chuck Leavell will also be on stage “for a few numbers” – presumably including “Jessica.” The event will pay tribute to the band’s 50th anniversary. The group played its last live performance October 28, 2014, at New York’s Beacon Theatre. Reports are that there will be no additional guests and that Dickey Betts will not be playing. To which we say. “Why not?” . . .The legendary John Prine will receive a Lifetime Achieve- ment award from the Grammy’s in 2020. We can think of no one more deserving. Prine’s wit and lyrical genius have been a part of American music’s landscape for over 50 years… Jerry Lee Lewis received a marker on the Mississippi Country Music Trail in De- cember at The Lewis Ranch, his longtime home in Nesbit, Miss. The event was his first public appearance since a minor stroke in March of 2019 and signals a productive 2020 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member. The presentation was highlighted by n acoustic performance of "Touching Home" by Marty Stuart with Lewis joining in and singing along…Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ongoing

farewell tour originally launched back in May 2018 and has been rolling ever since, with nu- merous new dates being added in 2019 and 2020 — though the group paused the trek in August to allow founding member Gary Rossington time to recover from heart sur- gery. In November, the band gave a one- night-only premiere of a concert film documenting their hometown performance at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, and released a companion live
album. The Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour resumes March 7th in Savannah, Georgia, with Travis Tritt supporting on select dates.
