ALL THE LATEST NEWS, VIEWS AND STORIES FROM AROUND YOUR LOCAL AREA:JANUARY/FEBRUARY Those all-important

New Year’s Resolutions Firstly, Happy New Year to all clients both past and present. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I am sure, just like me, it now feels like a long time ago.

Every New Year I make the same New Year’s resolution to “Get Fitter”. I have always loved going to classes or the gym but every year I decide that my New Year’s resolution (after a hefty Christmas of over indulgence) that I will get back to it and get fitter than I was last year.

I know for a lot of people that New Year’s Resolutions sometimes revolve around getting your legal affairs in order such as putting in place a Will.

No matter what your New Year’s resolution I find that the hardest part is getting started.

If you are looking to make a Will, then the first thing you will need to decide is who you wish to appoint as your Executors. Your Executors are the individuals who have responsibility for making sure that your estate is administered correctly. They can be the same individuals who are going to benefit from your Will.

You will then need to consider how you wish your estate to be distributed and to whom. This will of course depend on your circumstances. There are however numerous options available to you which we can discuss in more detail.

You may wish to leave a legacy of a set sum of money to an individual or charity. If you have particular important items such as jewellery or watches, a gift of these items could be made in your Will.

You will need to decide how the residue of your estate (any remaining assets not included as particular gifts in your Will) is to be distributed. You could consider leaving the residue of your estate to one particular individual or equally between a number of individuals. Alternatively, you may wish to divide the residue of your estate into unequal percentages etc. It is completely up to you!

For more information or to discuss a new Will, please do not hesitate to contact me. In the meantime, I will take the first step and renew my gym membership!
