Taking the mic: Verity Brown

Verity makes Wasps history

Wasps have become the first top-flight English rugby club to have a female matchday announcer. Pete Nuttall, the club’s long-standing announcer, temporarily

handed over the microphone to Wasps employee Verity Brown for the club’s Premiership Rugby Cup clash against Worcester Warriors at the Ricoh Arena. The idea was mooted during the summer by Pete, who sat out the

clash to announce his 20th consecutive Rugby League Grand Final on the same day. Verity’s moment of fame arrived nearly five years after she joined Wasps as a volunteer, before working her way up to become community manager and then matchday marketing manager. Verity said: “Hopefully hearing my voice over the microphone will

inspire other females out there to pursue roles that have traditionally been dominated by men.”

suppliers, more than 120 representatives from the marketing and creative services industry attended a briefing to learn more about the Games and the procurement opportunities. The session demonstrated how

bidders could win work and what was expected of the tender

submissions and the detail behind the different types of work on offer. The marketing and creative

services tender is divided across seven different specialist lots that will be awarded under a framework agreement. Prospective suppliers will

provide their services across design, creative strategy and campaign development, PR, events, research and insight, mascot design, and customer relationship management. Birmingham 2022 will appoint agencies to handle the design, production, and delivery of key aspects of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, including the Queen’s Baton Relay, the cultural programme, volunteer programme, ticketing campaign and the education programme. Josie Stevens, chief marketing

and communications officer, said: “We are looking for agency partners that are agile, ambitious, and bring bold creativity. “There is some extraordinary

work to be done as can deliver something spectacular for the city, the region, and the rest of the UK.”
