Millennium Point aims to forge STEM partnership
Millennium Point is looking to partner with organisations to boost science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) learning across the West Midlands. The nationwide STEM skills gap means that the
region currently has a shortfall of 173,000 skilled workers, while 89 per cent of STEM businesses are struggling to recruit. Millennium Point wants to collaborate with STEM businesses to tackle this problem.
Millennium Point: collaboration is the key
Abigail Vlahakis, interim CEO at Millennium Point, said:
“Collaboration is key for generating new ideas to boost STEM learning across the regions. These are the skills of the future, so innovation through working together is crucial. We would love to hear from organisations, particularly Chamber of Commerce patrons on how we can work together to boost STEM learning.” Everything Millennium Point does as a landlord,
events venue, meeting place and facilitator feeds back into its charitable arm, supporting STEM-related projects across the West Midlands. Key schemes include its annual scholarship and small
grants programmes, which have both been completed for 2018-19. More than 30 schools, charities and not- for-profit organisations in the West Midlands have received grants of up to £20,000 from the Millennium Point Small Grants scheme, with more than £410,000 now being put to good use. This year, organisations are using their grants to
arrange STEM festivals, fund school trips, purchase resources, build facilities and more to impact the growth of STEM in the region.
