November is traditionally the month when we especially remember those who have passed from this life before us. We can fi nd solace in praying for our departed, wishing them speed on their journey to God and asking for comfort in our time of loss.
Christian churches hold special services during November. The 2nd November is All Souls Day when the services of the day are for the souls of those departed that they may soon be united with our Lord.
Remembrance Day, 11th November is when the country remembers those who have given their life protecting their fellow countrymen. Many people will stop and remember on that day and there will be a public gathering for a short act of Remembrance outside the Methodist Church on the Broadway at 11am on the 11th November.
Prior to the 11th on Sunday 10th November, there will be an Act of Remembrance starting at 10.50am at the War Memorial in the Broadstone Recreation Ground, off Ridgeway, followed at 11.30am by a Remembrance Day Service at St John’s Church, Dunyeats Road. Similarly there will be a Service of Remembrance at the Methodist Church at 10.30am on that day.
On Sunday, 17th November, St Anthony’s will be holding a Remembrance event. Everyone in the community is invited to visit and light a candle in memory of departed family and friends from 2pm. At 3pm there will be a short Remembrance service, followed by tea and cakes in the hall.
