Broadstone Youth Club

It has been wonderful to see so many new young people join up to the Broadstone Youth Club in recent weeks. The teams are now welcoming over 200 children from the local area to the club for a range of activities and a safe space to be themselves.

With young people aged from 11 to 16 using the centre on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, our volunteer team is stretched to capacity. It would be wonderful if a couple more people came forward to support the team, helping out one evening a week (or a fortnight if that’s easier).

You don’t need any experience, but a good sense of humour and the ability to smile through a lot of noise is probably a good base line. Age is not a barrier – we have had fantastic volunteers aged 16-80+ over the last few years – and we will provide the appropriate DBS checks, and safeguarding training if required.

Over the next few months we are hoping to use the money we were given from last year’s Christmas Parade and that we earned volunteering at the Fun Day. We are currently planning to replace the blinds in the main hall and upgrade the TVs we use for video games to much bigger more modern ones.

If anyone local works for companies that might be able to get us a good deal on either, please do let us know.

Before half term we all enjoyed our first special event of the Youth Club Year – Halloween. All the young people had a scary night, and former volunteers came back to be part of the Spooktacular evenings. We are now thinking about our Christmas celebrations and hope many of the young people will get involved with the Parade as last year – not sure how we can top the Coca-Cola truck of 2017 or Baby Shark from last year, but we will give it a go.

If your young person hasn’t come along yet, please do encourage them. Children attend from a wide range of schools including BMS, Corfe Hills, Lockyers, Allenbourn, Hillbourne, Magna, Poole High, and Poole and Parkstone Grammar. It’s a great way to make new friends and costs just £1 per week!

It has been a busy autumn term so far for Corfe Hills School, with our students being involved with many extra-curricular activities, along with welcoming the local community to both our open evening and school tours.

There have been school trips, sports fi xtures, parent information evenings, the launch of our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for 2019/2020 as well as having new Year 9 students settling in.

School Production of Little Shop of Horrors: All of our students have been hard at work on rehearsals for this year’s school production, which will take place at Corfe Hills on Thursday 28 November to Saturday 30 November, and tickets will be available to buy from our Learning Resource Centre from Monday 4 November.

30

World’s Biggest Coffee Morning: Our staff held their annual cake sale one breaktime in support of Macmillan, joining in with the nationwide event and raising £142. There were some very talented bakers!

Careers Convention Evening: We are very grateful for the continued

support for our Careers Convention Evening which takes place on Wednesday 6 November, 6.30-8.30pm and is open to all. The evening provides students with information about post- 16 pathways from a variety of representatives, including employers, universities and other organisations. Our Year 11s also spend the day attending workshops about various subjects and careers to help them make next step choices.

This is just a snippet of the opportunities, activities and trips from this term.
