Broadstone Neighbourhood Watch I was really pleased to hear that the distribution


of the additional Police Offi cers announced by the Government last month has now been announced.


Dorset will be getting 50 new offi cers and this can only be good news. Unfortunately, it is only a fraction of the number cut in recent years, but I hope that the Police Commissioner and the Chief Constable will decide to increase the number of neighbourhood offi cers. While crime remains low in Dorset, the fear of crime is high with residents reading about incidents in the media and this can have a really negative impact on wellbeing.


We know that visible policing also acts as a deterrent to low level crime and anti-social behaviour, so I shall be calling on the PCC in the last few months of his term of offi ce to make a real commitment to communities. I am also pleased to confi rm that BCP Council should be reinstating our Safer Neighbourhood Team meetings in the next few months which bring together Council offi cers, police, elected members and Neighbourhood Watch leads to set out our community priorities. If you have any particular priorities you would like to suggest, please let me know.


Now that the clocks have gone back and we are thinking about winter, I want to remind people about the Safe and Well checks that are available through Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue. In winter, the risks of accidental fi res, falls, illness from cold and poor mental health from loneliness can all increase and we can all do our bit to help.


Anyone can make a referral to the Safe and Well team, or you can self refer, but priority is given to those who are vulnerable. It’s not just about fi tting or checking your smoke detector, but ensuring risks in your home are reduced and that you know how to keep safe in your own home.
