Broadstone Neighbourhood Forum Update

We are now in a position to provide more information about the planning consultation currently being undertaken by BCP Council as part of its review of the Local Plan.

In addition to the “Call for Sites” mentioned in last month’s update, the Council is asking for comments on fi ve issues: sustainable environment, dynamic region, connected communities, brighter futures and fulfi lled lives, as well as views on a new communications policy. This is referred to as “A Statement of Community Involvement”. It sets out the ways in which the local planning authority will engage with individuals, local communities and other stakeholders on a range of planning matters, such as:

• Preparation of Local Development Plan and associated documents, and

• Determination of planning applications.

Further details can be accessed at: www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/Council-and-Democratic/ Consultation-And-Research/Consultations/BCP- Council-Local-Plan.aspx

The Neighbourhood Forum will be submitting a detailed response to all three items in due course. In the meantime we would urge you all to take part in this consultation, which continues until 19th November. Responses can be submitted by email: bcplocalplan@bcpcouncil.gov.uk

Our own Neighbourhood Plan review is also underway and we would value any thoughts on a number of issues including the provision of more appropriate housing, especially for young families;

the identifi cation of green corridors; environmental enhancement including tree planting; sustainability standards for new dwellings; improving access to the Broadway, especially for pedestrians and cyclists, including reference to the subways; traffi c congestion and car parking. Comments can be sent to broadstoneneighbourhood@gmail.com or if preferred, handed in at the library. A box will be provided. Responses will be accepted up to and including 30th November. Once these have been evaluated we will schedule some activity days and drop-in sessions early in the New Year, from which we would hope to both modify some of the Neighbourhood Plan’s existing policies and create some relevant new ones.

Finally, with four new members, some of whom have highly relevant experience, our team is now as strong as it ever has been, but we would still welcome more volunteers. In many ways this is an exciting time to become involved. The number of Neighbourhood Forums is increasing across the conurbation providing opportunities to work together and share good practice, and a new conurbation-wide Local Plan is being developed. This, more than ever, means there is a growing need for Neighbourhood Plans and local involvement in the decision making process.
