Wessex Cross-Country Match 1: We launched the 2019 Wessex season by hosting this match at the Limelights Youth Centre. We were grateful to them for the use and for the hot food provided there. Thanks too to Dexters Youth Football, who kindly arranged their matches to be away and allowed us to use their facilities. Such examples of sporting co-operation were ably supported by those volunteers who set-up and cleared- up the wet, hilly course. The sunshine and gusty showers did not deter 307 runners from their task. Best for PAC were Lexie Brown (u13G) and Emily Parker (u17W) who both won and led their teams to victory; plus Will Rabjohns (u15B) who from 2nd also led a winning team. Ashia W, Seni P, Nancy T, Isobel R, Camilla B, Mark R, and Liam O also fi nished well-placed. But, as ever, all our 42 fi nishers helped by getting to the line before others! This was a great start for us.

Bournemouth Marathon Festival: Featuring for us near the front of their Junior races in October were: Jake A who was 4th in the 1.5 km race; Isla McP placing 5th in the 2km. race; and Josh S also 5th in the huge (1000+) Supernova 5km! As ever, an experience for all.

ERRA National Autumn Road Relays: These were staged in Sutton Park, Birmingham. Teams of three runners combined to get the baton round, each runner covering 3.88 Km. The best-placed of our three teams

were the u17W fi nishing 7th (of 37 teams). Emilie C was in the top ten of the fastest women. The u15B, who progressed from 14th to 8th as the race proceeded, faced nearly twice as many teams (62) and Will R ran the 7th fastest leg. Finally our u13G, with Lexie B showing the way, ranked 20th (of 42).

Hampshire Cross-Country Match 1: Twenty juniors gained valuable experience on a foul day. Among the heroes we had a winner, Lexie B in the u13G. Emily P maintained her high standard in ranking 4th of the u17W. Oliver H had a busy 24 hours, racing in the wet here, doing Sports Hall training and then Upton House Junior ParkRun on Sunday! Sportshall skills prepare athletes for outdoor events. We have three League matches and then a County Championships in January.

Helping the Scouts: Since 2016 we have been helping 3rd Bournemouth Scouts prepare for their “Olympics”, held in October in East London. One of our coaches visits their weekly Saturday activity programme at Winton Rec, where there is a 400m cycling track, on three or four occasions and covering sprints, relays and howler throwing. Then they hire Ashdown for a couple of visits to practise, with other coaches, various throws and jumps.

If you are interested or want to help us to help the community, please check our website: www.pooleac. co.uk or visit us at Ashdown.
