Girlguiding Switzerland was the best trip ever!


We did such an amazing range of activities; from soaring through the air on a massive zipwire, playing in a park in the clouds, learning curling and many more thrilling things.


The highlight of the trip for me was the evening we went to Our Chalet to meet Guides from other countries, especially the Canadians, who shared many goodies including Guide cookies and even Canadian socks! We were all anxious and shy at the beginning of the evening, worried about language barriers, but after all the groups did a small performance about where they’re from and we began to mingle, the atmosphere changed and we all got on so well. It was an amazing night hearing about how different other countries are and where there are similarities.


Another highlight was the fantastic views we could see, such as the rainbow in the valley from above, after walking back from the woodcarvers, being high up in the mountains on the cable cars, the waterfall at Engstligen and Oeschinen Lake that was well worth the walk to see the water bluer than Bluepool.


I can’t talk about Switzerland without mentioning the food. The quality was so much better than that of the UK and there were so many interesting sweets and chocolate and a drink called Rivella, which is only available in Switzerland. We went to a cheesemakers hut where we tried lovely cheeses they had made from two weeks ago, one year ago and two years ago and also held a traditional Swiss fondue evening which we found very entertaining.


We all had a wonderful trip and made many memories that will last a lifetime. Some of us have been bitten by the travel bug and are researching other International opportunities through Girlguiding.
