Mayor’s message
Playing our part to protect our climate and environment
AS I return to the role of Mayor of Kingsteignton I can’t help wonder about
all of the changes
since I had the honour to hold this office in 2015. Kingsteignton has grown considerably and we have welcomed many new residents to our community. The Town Council has grown too, more staff have been taken on to manage our growing responsi- bilities, hopes and expectations for our town. The Council has succeeded in obtaining a record level of developers’ funding contributions to improving our environment, enhancing community security with CCTV coverage and a Community Speed Watch team; clearing the ancient Leats to prevent flooding; better management of our footpaths; improving parks, and giving The Fountain area a makeover. All this will continue and in addition we will be paying more attention to protecting our environment and climate by playing our part in reducing activity that is harmful to the environment. Kingsteignton Town Council continues to strive to
build a strong sense of community among residents and community organisations. The council seeks to reach out to people and organisations to hear their views and learn from their ideas. The council wants to know how best to support those active in the community and welcomes comments and ideas from residents. There is another change since 2015 that should worry us all; the country has entered a period of significant uncertainty giving rise to some unhelpful social consequences. Kingsteignton is not immune to this. It is therefore of vital importance that the Council and all of us as citizens maintain our respect for each other and work together to guide our community into a healthy, safe, inclusive and prosperous future.
