Kingsteignton in Bloom competition 2019

FROM LEFT: Best Small Garden and Best Hanging Basket. Competition open to all

KINGSTEIGNTON in Bloom is a competition that has been run over several years by an individual, however, at the end of 2018 Mr John Ellis handed the reigns’ over to Kingsteignton Town Council.

The competition, open to all residents and businesses was a great success with several new entrants as well as some from previous year’s competitions.

Judging

took place on the morning of Saturday 13 July, the sun shone beautifully, the flowers held their heads high and judges Cllr Ron Peart and Mr John Ellis perused over the competitors’ entries.

Classes consisted of ‘Garden of the year’, won by Mr C Down, ‘Best Small Garden’ won by Mrs S Down, ‘Best Large Garden’ where joint winners Mrs C Menzies and Mr & Mrs M Thompson took the points, ‘Best Senior Citizen’s Garden’ was won by Mr C Down, ‘Best Single Hanging Basket/Window Box’ was won by Mrs S Vincent, ‘Best Group of Containers’ was won by Ms H Sokolowski, ‘Best Vegetable Garden’ was won by Mr & Mrs K Allum, ‘Best Group of Hanging Baskets/Window Boxes was won by Mrs S Vincent and ‘Best Single Container’ was won by Mrs S Down. ‘Best Trade Entry’ only enticed some of the local Pubs this year to enter and was won by The Old Rydon. Winners of the competition receive Cups and Cer-

tificates along with Prizes which are presented at a celebration event. Colourful floral blooms make such a spectacular

display for all that see them, whether it be in your own garden, a neighbour’s garden or just one that you may be passing by whilst out walking or driving. The scent given off from some flowers lifts one’s mood and enhances ones’ well-being. Flowers, fruit, vegetables and just being in a relaxing garden environment provide many health benefits to all as well as helping our declining wildlife population. The Town Council would like to thank all competitors who entered the 2019 competition and hope that more residents and businesses will be encouraged to enter next year.

We look forward to more entries in our competition in the year 2020!
