Kingsteignton Town Crier

Town Crier travels far and wide to project her cries!

WE are very proud of our first Town Crier, Mrs Jackie Edwards, who was appointed in the summer of 2015 after successfully winning the Criers’ Competition held at the Garden, Craft and Hobby Fayre at Oakford Lawn. Now in her fourth year of office, Jackie is honoured to have carried out various duties within Kingsteignton, which is where her heart lies, it has been home to her family for over 40 years. Jackie continues to run Edwards Home Maintenance, a very successful business with her son Neil, since the sad loss of her late husband Barry. A much-loved lady by many, Jackie has such wonderful qualities and while having had unfortunate losses within her private life, Jackie is symbolic at spreading love and happiness to all around her. Loving and living life to the full, Jackie volunteers

her free time to help others within the community. She assists students within Teign School Academy, organises events within St Michael’s Church and has recently set up a small group to help others who have lost a loved one, this group meets on the first Friday of the month at The Rydon Inn for a coffee and a chat with others who are in the same situation. Jackie has made many speeches and opened

several events with a formidable cry but her greatest pride is doing things within her town, such as opening the Ram Roast, the Garden & Craft Show, Live G8, the Mayor’s Civic Carol Service and the outdoor Fountain Carol Service. Jackie also has a very busy schedule to participate

within competitions in other towns within the UK, all of which are approved by Kingsteignton Town Council. In April 2017, there was no stopping Jackie in her

travels to participate in competitions, as she packed her suitcase and boarded a plane for the very first time on her own all the way to Bermuda, to take part in the ‘Bermuda International Town Crier Competi- tion’, hosted by the Corporation of St George. Jackie performed her cry in relation to commem-

orate 20 years of the twinning of St George with Lyme Regis-born Admiral George Somers who died on board the shipwreck voyage from Plymouth
