Twinning Association

Celebrating 40 years of twinning with Orbec in the region of Calvados

Did you know that over 41 Devon towns and villages have been twinned with the Calvados region of Normandy since 1976 and that this year is the 40th anniversary of Kingsteignton being twinned with Orbec and the 10th with La Vespière! Following an original exploratory visit in 1978 reciprocal trips have been made annually since 1979 with members staying with host families and being shown the best features of each area. This has led to the building of strong friendships over the years and for Twinner’s to obtain a real appreciation of life in each other’s country. Transport is by coach and ferry and so members can always enjoy the generous hospitality on offer to the full! This

year’s visit included a full sight-seeing daytrip to see the Bayeux Tapestry, Cathedral and

town, a musical evening and celebratory meals. In addition, there was a Civic Reception with the re-signing of the Twinning agreements and charters. Currently KOTA (Kingsteignton and Orbec Twin-

ning Association) has over 50 members whose ages range from 7 upwards. Besides the annual trip the group regularly socialise and fundraise. They have also held a stand at the RAM roast on Oakford lawn for many years. Hopefully many visitors joined in ‘Splat le Rat’ or were ‘Apple Dunking’ at the stall at this year’s show.
