Kingsteignton Library

‘The best library in Devon’ serves users of every age

KINGSTEIGNTON is very proud to boast a

wonderful library in its town – indeed, it has been referred to as ‘the best library in Devon’, writes Elizabeth Thompson, Chairman of Friends of Kingsteignton Library. The Friends of Kingsteignton Library (FOKL) group is delighted to support the excellent library staff team through fundraising events that enables the enhancement of the environment of the building, helps raise the profile of the library and supports the aim to increase the facilities for the benefit of our community.

The Group has been fortunate to

receive assistance through Grants from our local Council and other funding sources, for which it is sincerely grateful. The Library is situated most centrally to our

ever-growing town and serves the needs of users of every age in many ways. During the opening hours, not only may books and CDs be borrowed but also computers are available for use free of charge for a timed period. The library staff visit local schools and welcome

classes of pupils into the library on a regular basis. Each Friday morning a very popular Bounce and Rhyme session runs for younger children who are accompanied by parents, grandparents and adult family members – a very enjoyable morning for the young at heart of all ages. Through the very generous donation from the

Lego Foundation, there is a wonderful selection of Lego bricks available for budding builders and designers to be creative. The Library facility is available for hire outside of opening hours and offers a compact and well-ap- pointed small venue for children’s parties, groups’ meetings and fundraising events – current charge is £5 per hour (fuller details are available from the library). FOKL group holds a variety of fundraising events – quiz evenings, cream tea afternoons, visits from local authors, raffles, craft sessions – and monthly Saturday coffee mornings.

The home-made cakes

make this a very special ‘café’ when shopping. 16 KINGSTEIGNTON TOWN GUIDE
