LOCAL HOSPITAL LEADING THE WAY

Consultant urologist Mr John Donohue has become the fi rst surgeon in Kent to perform a new procedure that looks set to help improve the lives of men across the region. Nuffi eld Health Tunbridge Wells

Hospital recently announced the new treatment for prostate enlargement, also known as BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). The innovative procedure, called Rezum, uses water vapour to treat extra prostate tissue, which affects around 50% of men over the

age of 50, 70% of those over 70, and up to 90% of men over 80. The Rezum treatment, which takes just minutes to complete, applies radiofrequency energy to a few drops of water to create vapour and injects a small amount of steam into the prostate – over the next few weeks this leads to shrinkage of the prostate, which can ease the problems and relieve men of urinary symptoms. • Visit nuffi eldhealth.com/hospitals/ tunbridge-wells
