AGFS: DROP DOWN DAYS DDD

ENTREPRENEUR WORKSHOP YEAR 8

Y

ear 8 had a fantastic opportunity to work with the company 7Billionideas. 7Billionideas is a company that exists to connect the 7 billion people on the

planet with their own ideas. They do this through social media, corporate businesses and our education businesses. They’ve proudly worked with over 75,000 students and with businesses all over the world. 7billionideas exists to inspire students and teachers to think big and dream big.

David Harkin, CEO of innovations company is committed to creating entrepreneurs of the future. We were lucky to have him and 3 other entrepreneurs deliver a workshop to Year 8 students.

Deeyahani Bahra: “We had to work in groups and create an object that would improve the world. The area and topic could be to do with anything. We decided to make a room that could turn into a bathroom at any time because we like bathrooms that are spacious. The winning group made a virtual reality game which you could wear to experience different jobs. This would help you develop skills and prepare you for a future pathway”

So if you are a budding entrepreneur, think big and go big. You could be the one that creates new products, jobs or businesses don’t already exist!

ECOLOGY DROP DOWN DAY I

n April, students in Year 9 braved the rain, wind and cold to take part in an ecology drop down day. The field studies carried out on the Woolwich Common included: using

transects to measure the distribution of different plant species; using quadrats to measure the abundance of different plant species; a lichen walk; and a bug hunt. This day fulfilled the requirements for 1 of the 8 required Biology practicals the students will be completing for their GCSE. One of the many highlights of the trip included the presence of a double rainbow at the end of the day.

Jesse-Israel Babo of 9W, stated that although it was rainy he learned how to use the various techniques required for field studies. Jade Bliss 9W said that this was one of the more enjoyable drop down days, as she was learning outside of the classroom.

A big thank you to all staff helping to make this day possible for the Year 9.

Also, a big thank you to the Year 9 students for being so positive and working well when the weather was certainly working against us.
