HALF CENTURY Women T

he Half Century Women are a group of female staff, all aged around the half century mark, and some younger male associates, who have come together to raise

money for the Batemans Trust.

This is a charity which provides a safe home, food, clothing, and an education for destitute children in Chennai in southern India (above). The trust accommodates around 45 children, some of whom are orphans, or have experienced abandonment, slavery or military service. Some have loving and committed parents who are unable to feed their sons and daughters themselves. All the children come from traumatic situations, but for the most part, remain warm- hearted, cheerful, fun-loving, ambitious, hardworking and optimistic.

Children cared for by the trust have an opportunity to gain qualifications, attend college or university, and enjoy the same freedom to hope and plan for their future that we all want for our children.

Currently The Half Century Women have five people running in the London 10k on July 21st

, four people learning to spin

plates, two people learning to juggle, one person losing weight and one adjudicator.

I would like to thank all the staff and students at the school for their interest and encouragement. Several students in Year 8 and 9 have written to the Batemans students, and are awaiting replies. If you would like to support us, the link to our justgiving page is: www.justgiving. com/fundraising/ halfcenturychallenge. You can also look out for us at the summer musical show!
