Keith Motson is the newly appoint- ed General Manager for Blueriver Cottages. Keith has ambitious plans and is working hard with his team to offer a second-to-none service to hol- iday homeowners in and around the South West. Keith has over 20 years’ experience in the culture and tourism industries and, having managed one of the London orchestras, is used to putting on a world class performance for guests every week! Why do you think you were chosen for the job? I believe passionately that homeowners and guests are best served by a truly lo- cal team and the values that come from being a family-owned business. I also
have direct experience of the self-ca- tering cottage market in South Devon and leading a multi-skilled team in a fast-moving environment which are key to the role, but I like to think my natural wit and charm also played a part! How well do you know the South West? When I first met my wife, Sally, 11 years ago we holidayed near Slapton Sands and we fell in love with the beautiful South Hams. It quickly became an annual trip (including our honeymoon) and we always said we would move in a heartbeat. We loved exploring new places and revisiting favourite haunts every year and quickly came to know it very well. When the opportunity came to move from London down here a few

What are Blueriver Cottages’ top tips for ensuring maximum occupancy? Being flexible, particularly in the early years of holiday letting is the most important thing. Being ready to accept short breaks (which are now making up over a third of the holiday market) and also to look at a few strategic discounts in order to get the bookings coming in. This means that more people are able to experience the delights of your South Devon holiday home and many of those will become repeat bookers, returning year after year.

years ago we jumped at the chance! How do you like to relax? Being GM of Blueriver and father to a 5-year-old daughter means I am very rarely truly relaxed! However, a glass of wine in the garden or walking our lurcher through the fields near our home or along the coastal path are both great ways to unwind.
